Driver Leaves Prosthetic Arm Behind While Fleeing from DWI Crash
KIII TV (Corpus Christi, Texas) ^ |

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - Corpus Christi police responded to a one-vehicle crash just after 2:30 a.m. Thursday and found that the driver had fled the scene on foot -- but not without leaving behind his prosthetic arm.
The accident happened in the 400 block of Highway 286. Police say the vehicle had been going in the wrong direction and was driven off the overpass, becoming airborne before dropping down onto Laredo Street. The driver of the vehicle, 23-year old Juan Gutierrez, fled on foot without his prosthetic arm. He was spotted by police not far from the scene.
A passenger in the car, who was left behind at the scene, was transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Police determined that Gutierrez was intoxicated at the time of the accident. He was taken to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital to be treated for minor injuries before being booked into the City Detention Center for DWI.

Want To Start A Blog in Philadelphia? You’ll Need A $300 License For That!

Licensing regulations reduce economic freedom by creating barriers to market entry. For example, in my current home of Philadelphia, bloggers are required to obtain a $300 permit from the city. Blogging is by no means a lucrative business. In fact, an estimated 80% of bloggers will never make more than $100 from their work. A city official ironically says Philadelphia “loves the self-employed”. These permit-happy bureaucrats fail to grasp basic economics: occupational licensing can be detrimental to the economy.

Muslim holiday being ‘honored’ by Conn. school district includes animal sacrifice

Muslim holiday being ‘honored’ by Conn. school district includes animal sacrifice We reported on the basics of this story earlier. I felt another post was necessary for some of the specifics.
According to the NY Daily News, one of the holidays that the Waterbury school district has decided to ‘honor’ is Eid al-Adha:
The board voted to recognize Eid Al-Fitr, marking the end of the month of Ramadan, and Eid Al-Adha, an annual feast day, by giving observant students the day off to celebrate with their families. It also voted to instruct educators not to schedule any field trips, major tests or class events on the two holidays, according to the FoxCT channel.
Walid Shoebat points out that Eid al-Adha isn’t just a day of prayer and family, but it also includes the sacrificing of an animal at the end of the day:
Eid al-Adha is the Muslim “Festival of the sacrifice” which falls on the Muslim 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah and lasts for three days.

Officials: Teen accused in boy's death took selfie with body

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a western Pennsylvania teenager charged in the shooting death of another teen took a selfie with the body and sent it to a friend on social media. The 16-year-old boy is charged with homicide and a firearms count in the death of 16-year-old Ryan Mangan, who was found Wednesday evening in his Jeannette home. Police were contacted by the mother of another boy who said he'd received a photo showing the suspect with the victim after he'd been shot, and also received text messages from the suspect saying "Told you I cleaned up the shells" and "Ryan was not the last one."

Motorist cited for using flashlights in place of headlights

The Knoxville Police department sent out a reminder on their Facebook page Thursday stating that flashlights should never be used in place of headlights in a vehicle.
Officials say a Sweetwater resident was pulled over twice in an 18 hour period for driving after dark with only flashlights used to light up the road. The flashlights were reportedly strapped in with a bungee cord attached to the vehicle's bumper. The driver was first stopped by KPD in East Knoxville, then later by another officer in North Knoxville.

Florida court asked to decide if gay sex constitutes 'intercourse'

The case arose in Key West where Gary Debaun was charged in 2011 with falsely telling a man he did not have the virus before they engaged in sex acts. Monroe County Circuit Judge Wayne Miller dismissed the case, saying state law defined "sexual intercourse" as between men and women.
The state appealed, arguing that the 1986 law Debaun violated, which requires HIV-infected people to inform their partners, was intended to cover all sex acts, both homosexual and heterosexual, even if it did not precisely define the nature of sexual intercourse.
In large part that was because the law was written in gender neutral language, the state argued.
A district appeals court overturned Miller's ruling and asked the Supreme Court to intervene.
"The Florida Legislature and this court have always identified penile-vaginal union as 'sexual intercourse' and distinguished it from all other sexual contact," assistant public defender Brian Lee Ellison, representing Debaun, said in his brief to the high court.
"The plain meaning of the term is therefore clear and unambiguous," he added, stating that, according to Florida law sexual intercourse "does not refer to homosexual acts or oral sex."
