Chef Drops Foie Gras From Menu After Vegan Death Threats

Vegan activists threatened a restaurant in the United Kingdom over its Valentine's Day menu

A chef in the United Kingdom is backing away from including foie gras on a Valentine's Day menu after receiving death threats from vegan activists.

The chef at Kings Arms at Fleggburgh opted out of serving the decadent dish during Valentine's Day dinner this weekend after being subjected to "harassment" by activists who threatened to protest the menu, the Guardian reports. Foie gras is traditionally made by force feeding geese until their liver becomes enlarged.

"Lost in Space" Nigerian E-Mail Scam ... Nigerian Astronaut Lost in Space Needs $3M to Get Home

Nigerian astronaut lost in space needs $3m to get home - could be a scam
The Anorak Inbox features this plea: Nigerian Astronaut is lost in space needs $3Million to come home ...
Subject: Nigerian Astronaut Wants To Come Home
    Dr. Bakare Tunde
    Astronautics Project Manager
National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA)
    Plot 555
    Misau Street
    PMB 437
    Garki, Abuja, FCT NIGERIA
    Dear Mr. Sir,
    REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE-STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL
I am Dr. Bakare Tunde, the cousin of Nigerian Astronaut, Air Force Major Abacha Tunde. He was the first African in space when he made a secret flight to the Salyut 6 space station in 1979. He was on a later Soviet spaceflight, Soyuz T-16Z to the secret Soviet military space station Salyut 8T in 1989. He was stranded there in 1990 when the Soviet Union was dissolved. His other Soviet crew members returned to earth on the Soyuz T-16Z, but his place was taken up by return cargo. There have been occasional Progrez supply flights to keep him going since that time. He is in good humor, but wants to come home.
In the 14-years since he has been on the station, he has accumulated flight pay and interest amounting to almost $ 15,000,000 American Dollars. This is held in a trust at the Lagos National Savings and Trust Association. If we can obtain access to this money, we can place a down payment with the Russian Space Authorities for a Soyuz return flight to bring him back to Earth. I am told this will cost $ 3,000,000 American Dollars. In order to access the his trust fund we need your assistance.
Consequently, my colleagues and I are willing to transfer the total amount to your account or subsequent disbursement, since we as civil servants are prohibited by the Code of Conduct Bureau (Civil Service Laws) from opening and/ or operating foreign accounts in our names.
Needless to say, the trust reposed on you at this juncture is enormous. In return, we have agreed to offer you 20 percent of the transferred sum, while 10 percent shall be set aside for incidental expenses (internal and external) between the parties in the course of the transaction. You will be mandated to remit the balance 70 percent to other accounts in due course.
Kindly expedite action as we are behind schedule to enable us include downpayment in this financial quarter.
Please acknowledge the receipt of this message via my direct number 234 (0) 9-234-2220 only.
Yours Sincerely, Dr. Bakare Tunde Astronautics Project Manager tip@nasrda.gov.ng

Woman Crashes Her Own Funeral; Confronts Husband Who Paid to Have Her Killed
    PJ Media ^

An Australian woman whose partner of 10 years paid a hit team to murder her shocked the man by showing up at her own funeral.
Noela Rukundo's story is the stuff of a Lifetime miniseries. But it's the reaction of her husband when he saw her after believing she was dead that is more priceless than anything MasterCard can come up with.
Finally, she spotted the man she'd been waiting for. She stepped out of her car, and her husband put his hands on his head in horror.
"Is it my eyes?" she recalled him saying. "Is it a ghost?"
"Surprise! I'm still alive!" she replied.
Far from being elated, the man looked terrified. Five days earlier, he had ordered a team of hit men to kill Rukundo, his partner of 10 years. And they did -- well, they told him they did. They even got him to pay an extra few thousand dollars for carrying out the crime.
Now here was his wife, standing before him. In an interview with the BBC on Thursday, Rukundo recalled how he touched her shoulder to find it unnervingly solid. He jumped. Then he started screaming.
"I'm sorry for everything," he wailed.
But it was far too late for apologies; Rukundo called the police. The husband, Balenga Kalala, ultimately pleaded guilty and was sentenced to nine years in prison for incitement to murder, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corp. (the ABC).
Noela's ordeal began a year ago when she traveled to Burundi to attend the funeral of her mother-in-law. Afterwards, her husband suggested she go out for some air and when she did, she was attacked by three men who blindfolded her and drove to a secluded location. There, they tied her to a chair and informed her that her husband had paid them to kill her.
When she didn't believe them, they called the husband who ordered them to murder her. But, for reasons that still aren't clear, they didn't. The hit men claim they didn't kill women and besides, they knew Noela's brother.
Her escape from Burundi was not easy:
Shaken, but alive and doggedly determined, Rukundo began plotting her next move. She sought help from the Kenyan and Belgian embassies to return to Australia, according to The Age. Then she called the pastor of her church in Melbourne, she told the BBC, and explained to him what had happened. Without alerting Kalala, the pastor helped her get back home to her neighborhood near Melbourne.
Meanwhile, her husband had told everyone she had died in a tragic accident and the entire community mourned her at her funeral at the family home. On the night of Feb. 22, 2015, just as the widower Kalala waved goodbye to neighbors who had come to comfort him, Rukundo approached him, the very man whose voice she'd heard over the phone five days earlier, ordering that she be killed.
"I felt like somebody who had risen again," she told the BBC.
Though Kalala initially denied all involvement, Rukundo got him to confess to the crime during a phone conversation that was secretly recorded by police, according to The Age.
"Sometimes Devil can come into someone, to do something, but after they do it they start thinking, 'Why I did that thing?' later," he said, as he begged her to forgive him.
Kalala eventually pleaded guilty to the scheme. He was sentenced to nine years in prison by a judge in Melbourne.
We've all daydreamed about attending our own funeral. Reading the glowing obit. Watching the grieving family and relatives. My own fantasy is to actually write my own eulogy. After all, who knows me better than me?
But the burning satisfaction this woman must have felt when she saw the look of surprise, shock and horror on her husband's face redefines forever the term "schadenfreude."

Confederate flag tattoo stops man from joining Marines

The Marine Corps confirmed that a man was told his tattoo of a Confederate flag made him ineligible to join the Marines because it violates the service’s policy on body ink.

“These Confederate flag tattoos have been denied in the past,” said Capt. Dustin Pratico, a spokesman for the 8th Recruiting District. “It’s a not new thing. This isn’t the first time that it’s ever happened. This is just one of the times it happened to catch media attention.”
The story was first reported on Jan. 20 by the Little Rock TV station KARK 4. Pratico confirmed that Anthony Bauswell made a “verbal commitment” to join the Marine Corps on Jan. 18 at a recruiting station in Conway, Arkansas. A staff noncommissioned officer in charge then interviewed Bauswell as part of the recruiting process.

First on CNN: Obama to push to clear leftover Vietnam-era bombs

Last fall, in anticipation of this year's ASEAN summit in Laos, the President sent one of his most trusted advisers, Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes, to visit. After shepherding last year's historic rapprochement between the U.S. and Cuba, Rhodes saw a similar opportunity to repair relations with Laos.
He returned to Washington profoundly moved by the scope of the unexploded ordnance problem and convinced clearance was key to helping the impoverished nation better develop its agriculture and economy.
The amount of unexploded ordnance in Laos hinders development and poverty reduction. Laos has less land to build factories, schools and farms on. He told Obama the United States had an obligation to help. Moreover, with Obama making engagement of Southeast Asia a priority, he argued it was smart policy.
The President agreed it was time to try to solve the problem once and for all.

German TV station adds Islamic crescent and star symbol to its logo!?! [Rape of Europa]

German Television station Tele5 has changed its logo to a German flag emblazoned with the Islamic star and crescent, just weeks after the New Year’s Eve Muslim migrant sex attacks in Cologne and Muslim terrorist attack in Istanbul.

Tele5 justified the move on Twitter this afternoon, saying that it was a symbol "expressing our sympathy to the victims of yesterday's attack," on German tourists in Istanbul. The attack in Istanbul took the lives of 10 tourists, mostly Germans, in Sultanahmet square, near the Blue mosque and Hagia Sophia. According to Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus, the suicide bomber who perpetrated the attack has been identified as a Syrian migrant from body parts recovered on the scene. The Deputy Prime Minister also clarified that the bomber was not on Turkey's terrorism watch list, and it has now been reported that he entered the country as a Syrian "refugee"

The move comes a few weeks after the German state broadcaster, ZDF, launched an Arabic-language version of its news service online, and emblazoned Arabic subtitles over German Chancellor Angela Merkel's New Year's address. Since tweeting their justification for their actions the Tele5 twitter has been full of mixed reactions and with outright criticism, leading user @EberhardFuchs to comment, "is it not inappropriate to to put an Islamic symbol on the German flag after an Islamist attack?"

This Is The Cartoon Germany Hands Out To Sexually Frustrated Refugees

Earlier this evening, we noted that the western German town of Bornheim has banned adult male asylum seekers from its indoor public pool after some German women complained of harassment.
"There have been complaints of sexual harassment and chatting-up going on in this swimming pool ... by groups of young men, and this has prompted some women to leave (the premises)," the towns deputy mayor said.

Bornheim, as it turns out, is just a stones throw away from Cologne where a wave of sexual assaults allegedly perpetrated by men of “Arab origin” at a New Years Eve festival has mushroomed into a bloc-wide scandal.

Now, officials from across Europe are struggling to deflect criticism and devise a way to ensure that women are safe in large crowds.
As we documented on Thursday, Switzerland has adopted an Austrian cartoon flyer for its upcoming Lucerne carnival. The pictogram lays out various instances of accepted behavior such as kissing and praying, while making it clear that flying into a mad rage and open-hand slapping women and small children is frowned upon in polite society.

Fannie Mae Rolls Out Easy Mortgage, Catering To High-Risk Immigrants

Subprime 2.0: The White House is rolling out a new low-income mortgage program that for the first time lets lenders qualify borrowers by counting income from nonborrowers living in the household. What could go wrong?
The HomeReady program is offered through Fannie Mae, which is now controlled by Obama's old Congressional Black Caucus pal Mel Watt. It replaces the bankrupted mortgage giant's notorious old subprime program, MyCommunityMortgage.
In case renaming the subprime product fails to fool anybody, the affordable-housing geniuses in the administration have re-termed "subprime," a dirty word since the mortgage bust, "alternative."
