It all seems very simple to me - but then I am.
If you do a manual job you'll need more carbohydrate than somebody that doesn't do a manual job.
If you sit at an office desk all day and eat cake you'll get fat.
If you are a manual worker in colder Northern climates you'll need a reasonable dollop of fat in your diet too.
If you work out regularly you'll need a good supply of both carbohydrates and protein.
All of the above require just a few vegetables.

There's a guy at my workplace who is 22 stone - he goes to the gym all the time but blows out on pizzas and coke and wonders why he's still fat. This is a guy that needs pretty much zero carbohydrates in his diet due to his metabolism. If he then works out whilst completely abstaining from carbs his body will start to get it's energy from his fat stores....but he's too stupid to 'get' it. He fools himself that he's not eating that much.
Another fella that was 19 stone, doesn't exercise has gone on the fasting diets. He has one day of eating and one day not eating. He has lost a lot of weight

Diet isn't rocket science but too many people think it is.
If you eat carbs it is imperative that you burn them off and not to eat more carbs than you're burning or it'll get stored as fat. It's very very simple...but the people that tend to not understand, or pretend not to understand, tend to be fat/overweight/lard arse/jelly belly/chunky monkey........

Even simpler, people eat when they are hungry and not getting proper nourishment. Change your primary fuel from Carbs to Fat and you win in both scenarios. Fat is a better fuel than carbs, don't get me wrong you need carbs imo just not an excessive amount and should be clean carbs not with toxins. This is why people that eat a carb based diet typically don't lose weight when they workout more as they then require even more carbs to feel satiated and maintain energy, so no net gain.

btw..on top of my dinner which consisted of loads of pasta, 300g of minced beef...I've just eaten two Mars bars and a whole loaf of Jamaican Ginger cake. But I was working out before I came to work and I'm off for a 5 mile walk. I'm 185lb.

Yes, let your weight be your guide. When I was carb based I could eat anything I wanted if I worked out everyday or nearly everyday and maintain my weight but with an active schedule, big family it often was hard to get back on track once if I missed workouts for more than a couple days. I did 3 rounds of p90x and was a carb alcoholic.

If I had been on the same diet during my p90x phase as I am now I think I would have recovered faster, had less energy swings and been stronger and more ripped but I don't plan to go back to p90x workouts, as too time consuming and too much risk of overuse injuries imo and I am a much better looking specimen on my current diet and BBS workout regime.

Piks - all this is very informative and I'm sure if you stick to it you will lose weight.

My question is though, is it good for you? Simply losing weight is not an indicator of good health.

              You're right Squeezy.
You can be a heavy guy, but do exercise and have a healthier outlook than a skinny guy that doesn't exercise.

I went on the diet feel better and cure some chronic health issues that I was having. Losing and maintaining weight was a side benefit. I was looking to alleviate my lack of energy, brain fog, acid reflux, headaches, congestion, and allergies, all issues I hadn't experienced prior. This way of eating alleviated every issue for me within less than 2 months. I stick with the diet not for the weight maintenance but just because I continue to feel good on it and when I stray too far I feel negative health consequences, so that serves as a reminder to stay the course. So the primary reason that I am on this diet is for over all health and well being. I am hopeful that I will experience both quality and quantity of health through the remainder of my life, as a result of following this diet. I agree, imo a genuinely happy person that is overweight is likely to fare much better health wise than a person that is not overweight but is chronically unhappy, stressed, depressed, anxious, worried, has a bad outlook on life etc..

Jaminet believes that Ketosis (very low carb) is best used to treat specific health issues but not his recommended diet as a standard diet. Not saying he is correct just pointing out his views on ketosis and carbs differ quite a bit from Arcita.

I loved doing Keto, the only reason I even stopped is because my wife couldn't hang with the no-carb ALL BACON excellence I brought to the table each day. Doing Intermittent Fasting is my new kick I've been on, works great.

Really though, if you just eat healthy and get some exercise you'll be alright regardless.
