Medical marijuana advocates in New York have announced a month-long series of events urging lawmakers to pass the state's Compassionate Care Act, a bill aimed at legalizing marijuana for medical purposes.

The program's launch also coincides with a report in the Buffalo News profiling New York families who are relocating to states such as Colorado, where marijuana use is now legal, to access a marijuana treatment for children called Charlotte's Web.

“I couldn’t wait, because if she got bad again, she could die," Don Burger, whose 8-year-old daughter suffers from daily seizures, told the Buffalo News.

Forgoing additional surgery, Burger and his wife recently made the decision to move to Colorado in order to gain access to medical marijuana for their daughter. He says since receiving the oil-based marijuana treatments -- which lack the compounds that produce a high -- his daughter has experienced as increase in both appetite and overall attentiveness.

“She said ‘apple’ the other day,” he told the paper. “She’s saying ‘hi’ and going to preschool.”

A recent poll found an overwhelming 88 percent of New Yorkers support legalizing medical marijuana, but previous attempts to pass such legislation have ultimately been blocked in the state senate.

I'm a little uneasy about it. We have both tried it before when we were in high school but while pretty severely under the influence of alcohol so i have no honest idea what it would be like. A few years ago, under my better judgement i tried K2 while at a friends lake house after high school graduation and i ended up waking up sitting at the foot of another couples bed.......so.... There are a few cool dudes I work with that are regular users I'm just not sure how to ask them if i can buy some from them. I know here in IL you can get it for specific things but to be honest I'm not sure what they are, my girlfriend seems to think i could be diagnosed with something from a shrink for just being strange, she also thinks I am bipolar simply because I can move on from being mad about something rather quickly. Question crow if i fit the requirements to get a weed card or whatever in IL where would i get the weed from? I know there are not dispensaries here so would it like....be mailed to me or something?

Stay away from K2, Spice, and the like. Those synthetics (JWH-### and others) are some nasty stuff..... You won't tweak out on the natural cannabis.

Your state is the most recent state to legalise medical cannabis (welcome #20 ). The law took effect on 1 January, and the state allows for 22 licenced cultivation centres, and up to 60 licenced dispensaries [however, the entire system is still being propped up].

Doctors and dispensaries should start sprouting up any day now. I would check web sites like WeedMaps now and then to see if dispensaries pop up in your state.

You also might want to check out your local Craigslist for '420' or 'mmj'. I checked Chicago's, and I've already found some interesting results.

But as you said, you know some cool dudes. Just be direct. "Hey, do you guys know where I can get some green around here?"........... or summit like that. They should hook you up.

Yep, medicinal cannabis is the way to go... Why someone would drink non-alcoholic beer, or decaffeinated coffee, or THC-free cannabis is beyond me.

There was a company that sold hemp dip, but I haven't seen it sold lately.

No, it's like the difference between feed corn and sweet corn. Hemp is taller, low THC and grown for its fibers and oils. MJ is a lower, usually unfertilized, female hemp plant variety, bred for high THC and smoking. They are both cannabis sativa plants, just different varieties.

I suppose I see now. Does anyone smoke hemp? I understand it doesn't get you high but maybe as just an alternative to a pipe of tobacco?

Hemp = fiber (you can make ropes, clothing, or Grateful Dead souvenirs from it)

MJ.........(the mood altering chemicals contained in the plant that gives you the hemp fiber).
