Canadian woman develops Scottish accent after concussion

Two months after a 2008 horseback riding accident left her with a concussion, Sharon Campbell-Rayment, of Canada, developed a strange accent, the National Post reported.
But it wasn’t until a recent trip to Scotland, where her daughter had begun attending school, that Campbell-Rayment discovered that her new accent was native to the Scottish Highlands.
Though Campbell-Rayment has Scottish ancestors, she’d never before visited the country or met any relatives who spoke with the same Scottish accent she developed after her accident.

When enough people vote for obama to make him president...TWICE...i will take anyones word that most americans are stupid. How are we free if we are forced to have health care? Holy shit he almost got us all killed by the russians with this syria horse shit. Andy as much as I love my country i will agree with damn near anyone that says we are stupid for several reasons. Does anyone realize noone has even made an attempt to outlaw black friday? A day when every year several people die in the name of saving 10% off of a TV. I guarantee if a tradition like that started in europe it would be gone shortly. We have a system of giving more to those who don't try and turn away people who need help and are giving 100% effort. Every 5 seconds someone in this country is offended by something and so it is banned. I could probably sue anyone on this board if they ever made a post that argued against me...i probably wouldn't win but it would probably make it all the way to court....that is sad and pathetic. We have it right in our constitution that everyone is equal regardless of race gender etc etc yet we have different criteria for firing an employee depending on race. We have laws forcing an employer to meet certain criteria for race. When me and a friend got hired at my current position we were told we would each be one of 55 new employees starting there. We predicted it would be 2 black males 1 black female 5 hispanic and the rest white.....we were correct. That is sad. I am all for giving the best person the position but to be told that x percent of your employees must be white/hispanic etc and then making these places go through different processes for firing depending on race is just proof we have a broken system. A friend works at a local bank in a small town where I am from. They were going to face penalties unless they started giving minorities loans. All 1500 people in my town are white though, so this small bank that just recently granted online access to its customers had to start trying to get people to go through them for house loans in Peoria and other bigger more diverse places. That's freedom? Sure European countries will typically force you to have health care...the people there don't mind because its a universal plan that makes sense, our nordic friends have the most transparency and the least corruption. I can only dream of what living there is like since 4 of my last 8 governors have been impeached/stepped down due to scandal. Maybe these eurozone countries have less "freedom" but they sure as hell have a much happier life than us. Our corruption and out of control government is closer to a civil war country in africa than it is to some of the better european countries.

I really hate to sound like a hippy Andy. I love and believe in capitalism but thats because i see its the best thing for the environment I live in. All forms of government CAN work if they are run properly. We can't have socialism in the U.S because people would be able to get free handouts even more than they do now. Our friends in the nordic countries all strive for a common goal. They look to contribute in any way they can (this may be outdated since the recent mass influx of foreigners.) Some say it dates back to English rulers asking to speak to the king of the raiding vikings and they would declare they were all kings. Management works next to low level employees and all ideas are considered equal and the pay is relatively equal. If someone is unhappy they are able to get training for a different job and receive a benefit to help them with that transition. That is a system that has worked for them for quite some time. That plan working here in the US is laughable at best, it would have 100% fraud the second it started. Maybe the problem isn't our system maybe it is the citizens. We are responsible for allowing obama to be elected twice. We bitched and moaned about children receiving special attention and advancing quicker in school while others were left behind. We give a trophy for participating. We let an actor that was famous for 15 minutes tell you that vaccines cause autism. We declare an obesity epidemic and so we declare pizza a vegetable. We charge students a fortune to go to school for the opportunity to possibly have a job to allow them to pay it back and then determine that having another child while remaining unemployed means you get a bigger welfare check. We are not on the path to success like switzerland, we are on the path to living in slums while remembering our previous glories like Greece.

We'll be OK, when we outgrow what some consider 'fashionable'. I agree that many people are way too soft here, and expect too much. America is still an experiment in progress. Ups and downs are inevitable. The government changes often enough to balance things out in the long run. This country is too big and diverse for a 'one size fits all' solution. That's why individual states were supposed to have more power than the Feds. Something we should get back to. Maybe we need a period of hard times to slap people back to common sense. But, I can still get in the car, and drive for three thousand miles on paved roads, meeting people from all over the world, and never have to stop for a government official, unless I slam into a police car at 100 mph. I worked a full career here, pay for my own health insurance and retirement (I never paid into Social Security, just made sense not to, my job didn't require it). Of course, as a society, we should help those unable to do so, but there's nothing wrong with putting limits on those that abuse charity.
I'm in screwed up Illinois, but it'll grow up someday.

In my opinion, it´s statements like this that make Americans look dumb. Try to think now. Does Capitalism really CREATE JOBS? What about all those societies without this demented system? Nobody has ever had a job in them? Ditto "paying for everything". Just think about how it could possibly pay for anything. Everything was paid for before the outset of capitalism and will be paid for after its downfall.

BTW: You might wave your guns around until you shoot your ear off, this does not mean you have not been already enslaved. Yes, you can shoot your neighbor or half the kids in your local school, but you will never even get close to the slavemaster. You cannot even shoot his goons who come to foreclose your house. If you try, hordes of goons will make it their mission to kill you. You should know. You belonged to them, right? Protecting the slavemasters against the enslaved population? I think I read something in that respect. The newspeak term for that is "law-enforcement".

Every society has some form of capitalism, since the fall of feudalism. There's nothing wrong with some government regulation of business, but government run business doesn't seem to work out too well. When there's no competition, there's no incentive to excel. Also, there's no taxes to run government without business, or gainful employment for the masses...Watch a capitalist landscaping business dig a hole. Then watch the government workers dig a hole. See who finishes first. I've dealt with govt workers all my life, who in most cases will only work hard enough to keep their job. You can live off your free government cheese, just don't try to steal mine, or I'll shoot you in the face.

I'm always sad to see this. I got really interested in nordic countries particularly sweden after me and my girlfriend tried to find relatives of her's still living there. It's actually how i found snus. I always thought maybe if it made sense we would go live there if we didn't land solid careers here straight out of school. It's sad to see their political system is allowing things to be made worse while ignoring what made them great. Those nordic countries were havens. No foreigners wanted to live there...who the hell would move from a hot climate to one that freezing 9 months out of the year. They all had a common ancestry and tradition they all strived for. The person who quit their job received help so they could get trained to do something they wanted to. They all wanted to help others knowing others would help them. The sad part of a world society today is noone will point out the obvious because we have been shamed by it. The biggest reason "the nordic model" doesn't work is because they are allowing non-nordics to participate. They allow mass influx of foreigners. You can count my statement as racist or speaking the truth or however you'd like, but the mass influx of islam culture is doing nothing but hurting their life. And as they grant these foreigners all the liberty in the world so they don't sound racist, they see their life style crumble. To get back to their way of life they need to kick out everyone who is not adopting their culture in order to preserve that life style, but they throw their own people under the bus while allowing their own people to be raped murdered and everything else by these foreigners. All of this is being done in the "neutral" ways to prevent anyone from accusing them of being racist. That pot of money to help out those in need is spent providing for those who refuse to work. There will need to come a point in time for every culture when they are able to call a spade a spade as my grandfather always said. I think I have the right to think anyone is an asshole, no matter if they are white/black/mexican/arabian etc. There is a fine line between thinking someone is an asshole because they are an asshole and thinking they are an asshole because they are a different race. We need to move away from this broken system of treating white on black crime different than black on black crime. Where the race card is something everyone mocks you for for trying to use. It's pretty sad the the best person to figure out they should not allow foriegners in because they cause crime is the head honcho of Russia. The country that came out on top of the syrian refugee epidemic was Russia. They let noone in and continued with their way of life. They didn't consider if they would be mocked and called racist, they looked after their own people, saw how these refugees were panning out in other countries and decided that it was a bad idea to let them in.

Freedom has a different definition to everyone. If you want freedom like most americans perceive they have....go to somalia...the most free place on earth. Some non-essential freedoms need to be taken away in order to provide for a civilized nation. A fine balance is needed for each culture and each way of life no matter if you are communist,socialist,capitalist. A different market style can work for everyone. The average gdp per capital is norway is hovering around 65k/yr right now? So imagine everyone in a country having the equivialent of 65k a year.....not bad. Take that to america where the number is more around 25-30k....not such a bright picture imagining everyone with that now is it?
