Just thought I'd update you guys on my job hunt progress. I've got one interview lined up thanks to a friend from school I hadn't talked to in a few years, and a part time job at my friends gun shop lined up if nothing comes my way by the 1st. There's so many IT jobs in St. Louis right now it's crazy. Here's to hoping I can snag one! In the meantime I'm continuing my regular job...except I just sit there and work on cover letters and look for jobs ;-)

Snotgiff I feel your pain brother, I got downsized, or fired and fuct the PC way last year around Christmas time.....it was a kick right threw my ass....I had to hustle and work side jobs and whatever I could find to make ends meet....I found a new regular gig, but it is barely half what I was making, I am still looking for something better, but my kid has a roof over his head, clean clothes on his back and food in his belly, so really all I have is luxury problems....Keep your head up brother, things will come together.

I remember my dad telling me about when he had gotten out of the Navy. He had 3 kids and a job he had set up turned out to not be what he was originally offered. He kept searching and putting in the time and eventually found his eventual career path. It's usually those big losses that turn into those big opportunities. Keep at it and you'll find something bigger and better

never……… NEVER EVER………. let the accountants steer the ship…………they will only take you to the places everyone already knows how to get to

All I can do is keep my chin up right now. It sucks having to go to work and see these people. Today was totally uncomfortable...Saw the Senior Pastor(kinda the CEO if you will) while I was taking a piss, he asked how I was doing so I just said "Fantastic!" and walked out of the pisser. A few years ago before I was married and had a kid, I would have just told them to shove the job up their ass. Or quit the week of Easter, that would really screw them. But, I'm gonna hang in there till I get a job...then tell them to shove it ;-)

I have seen a few people, mostly in construction, get more work then they could possibly do through craigslist. Might be worth a shot.

Yes, I believe it is something you need to do yourself over a certain amount made during the year and the company that hired you out just reports it as paid out. Anything earned will be garnished from unemployment checks. I am on a number of companies 1099 list so it just makes things legit and easy but the tax man still gets his cut after everything works out at the end of the year.

Snotgiff, did not realize the daily nightmare working there! so, sorry no 1099 in that case.

Sorry to hear that bro, that really sucks. You'll bounce back, no worries. The economy is shit right now, for everyone.
