Despite how it may all come across, as I've said I don't have a personal problem with guns or gun-ownership. I love skeet shooting at my buddy's cabin in the North Cascades, and I love shooting his various pistols and the mini 14. That's really the only place I shoot guns every summer. Someday when I have some land I will own some guns, or at least a couple nice over-unders for shooting clay.
I have enjoyed shooting sports my whole life, Clay's especially! I always put a lot of effort into "responsible" gun ownership, always looked down on those who do not. But I grew up in Texas and the West, part of growing up to me. I gave up competitive shooting 10 years ago, still have more than y share of guns, but they sure come in handy for the occasional rabid "critter"! Hate to have to dispatch a crazy ass racoon with a broomstick!

Speaking of Crazy ass rabid Racoons, Kepp going guy's! But break clean.

    Couldn't agree more.

Yes, the most extensive research on the subject (linked to above) shows that gun control laws don't have any measurable effect, as in they don't reduce murder rates or suicide rates, rather these laws only affect what the weapon of choice is for the criminal.

It's all well and good to say we should take away inherent freedoms so that everyone can "feel safer", but the reality is that it doesn't make you safer. Someone living in Denmark could not logically make an argument that what works there is going to scale up to a country of 300 million people spread across what are essentially 51 different states with their own governing bodies.

BTW, I used to be a raving gun nut, I gave up the raving, moved to the country, and live a quite life now, I do not rise to the bait about guns anymore, but it is a very effective way to get blood pumping in many, mix that with election year politics, endless talking heads grinding out shitstorm sausage every time there is a "tragedy", and some just go ballistic. Not making anything other than a observation there.

I think we can probably all agree that a right to free speech and reasoned discussion without fear of repercussions and bullying is the first thing that needs protecting in any society, even an Internet forum!

    Kudos for that!
