    Obama Says So Long SOPA.

Obama Says So Long SOPA, Killing Controversial Internet Piracy Legislation.
Well, that's one thing he's done to make me happy. Sad thing is, I was afraid he would say it was cool with him.

    Check it out.

I'm glad he is not supporting it.

But it can still go through, right? I hope, for the future of the internet, that it does not...

The SOPA act is the worst proposal EVER. Like wtf.

It's safe for awhile. I'm sure they'll try again, or do what they did to Kennedy.

Forbes is overestimating Obama's importance. With adequate bribery going on in the House, I can still see SOPA as something peole need to watch out for. Have to make sure that it doesn't swing back up and get passed whe they think we're happy with ourselves and looking the other way.

What complete nonsense. First of all he said he was not in support of the Patriot Act and NDAA but those all passed and so will this.

Unfortunately it is NOT "So long SOPA", it is still going through as fast as it ever was but just postponed until next month. Plus we still have the PIPA act which is the same thing. The plan is to play down SOPA while passing PIPA in the background while no one is looking:

*SOPA is back, it has NOT been shelved and its markup is expected to continue next month.

*SOPA Markup To Resume In February

*Stop Online Piracy Act Markup to Resume in February (house.gov)

          *Floor vote on S. 968 (Protect-IP Act/PIPA) is scheduled for January 24th.

*SOPA isn't back, SOPA never left.

*SOPA isn't Dead- It's Just Sleeping

*MPAA awful attempt to spin the White House position on SOPA. "So now it is time to stop the obstruction and move forward on legislation."

Everyone from Google, Wikipedia, Firefox, Reddit, BoingBoing.net all the way to the makers of Minecraft and many others are blacking out their service or displaying an anti-SOPA message tomorrow 1/18/12 in protest.

Google will protest SOPA tomorrow with a link on the front page!

Wikipedia to join the Wednesday January 18 SOPA/PIPA blackout!

Mozilla to join the January 18th SOPA/PIPA blackout!

          Imgur joins SOPA/PIPA blackout

          Mojang Joins SOPA Protest.

Raspberry Pi website to go dark on Jan 18 to protest against SOPA

Boing Boing Joins Reddit and will go dark on Jan 18 to fight SOPA

You mean...they might be deceiving us? As you can see, I'm quite shocked by this unforeseen level of sneakiness. I don't quite know how I'll cope with the news that I can't trust a politician or the same media interests who want this to go through to report on it accurately to me.

It's tarted. Wikipedia is now off-line in protest of SOPA. Google has it's logo "censored" and is directing traffic towards anti- SOPA information. Thepiratebay.org is down, imgur.com is down, flickr.com is down. Firefox, Mojang (minecraft) and ahundred others are all supporting sopa blackout today/tomorrow.

Thousands of sites will be down in protest.

Call your senators or congressman. Tweet to them on twitter that you don't want censorship. All of the democrats in CA are for SOPA, namely Barbara Boxer. Take her down, this woman has a long history of supporting draconian legislation.

Lets see, the entire country is against it, even the President, but it will fly through. More than half the country is now in favor of legalizing marijunana, but no way in hell it will be so in the forseeable future. yea, our gov't is about what the people want. Sure they are.

The president, and most of the other politicians find it politically advantageous to back off support for the time being. While that supports freedom for the time being, I'm a big fan of the adage "It's the thought that counts". They thought they'd fsck us over for their buddies with the money, and they'll continue to trying to do so. This is just a strategic retreat. The battle's far from over.

Btw, I'm not disagreeing with you. Just the point that the president is against the bill(for the right reasons).

Arstechnica is running SOPA articles today. Since their audience already knows about the bill, they figured their efforts would be better spent on education :^)

Just as an FYI, most sites (like Wikipedia) are blacked out today by using a script to redirect traffic. If you enable noscript than you can block it and access Wikipedia etc just as you normally would. Even their censorship can't stop us! Lol
