There is not much you can do about it. They stuck a meter on my house when I was at work. You can opt out but you have to pay 100's of dollar every year for their fee for a regular meter.

You could organize a bunch of people and rip the suckers off. The only reason they get away with it is because most people don't realize what exactly there doing. If they come to put one on my place they will be told to leave before I either protect my "own" property or I break out my airgun, it's not fatal but it sure hurts. People need to start standing up for their rights or we will lose the little we have left. You know I wouldn't break out a weapon but I'd stand in front of it and if I got arrested for standing on my own property, I would make a federal case out of it. Maybe it's time to get a big dog to leave in the yard when I'm not home........

I would love to get rid of my smart meter. I don't like the idea of the power company monitoring my usage anymore than I would like Chevron to keep tabs on where and how I drive. I also think that this is basically a way to get rid of good jobs as meter readers will be phased out. We keep bitching about unemployment in this country while embracing technologies that make people obsolete. Remember when you could dial 0 on the phone and actually get a person on the other end?

I don't have a problem with it broadcasting a single kw reading once per month, but if they want more specific information than that, I should be paid for it, and I should be able to see exactly what is being sent.

That's just crazy.. I wrote a thread recently about a thermostat that they were installing in our apts that they can turn your AC off when they please. I got out of it thankfully.

I've had the A/C switch for years. I've never had problems with it, but apparently some have over the last heat wave. They're only supposed to turn it off for 15 minutes at a time if I remember right, but some people had theirs off for hours.
