Ba'ath Party

The party was founded in Damascus, Syria in 1947 by the Syrian intellectuals Michel Aflaq, and Salah al-Bitar, and since its inception has established branches in different Arab countries, although the only countries it has ever held power in are Syria and Iraq. In Syria it has had a monopoly on political power since the party's 1963 coup. Ba'athists also seized power in Iraq in 1963, but were deposed some months later. They returned to power in a 1968 coup and remained the sole party of government until the 2003 Iraq invasion. Since then they have been banned in Iraq.

Americans are trendy populist bastards, which tells me these protests may be here soon. Young people will want to emulate what these other countries are doing and try bringing this here. May fizzle and turn into nothing or it may awaken a sleeping giant of fringe whackos who think their day has finally come. Break out the popcorn though, if these worldwide protests continue we may start seeing it here, even though our situation here is not ANYWHERE nearly as bad as these other countries in the slightest. Then again, changing our country would probably benefit the smaller countries a lot since we could stop messing with their honey pots all the time.

So, the next step is for Syria to start killing the revolutionaries - then the neighboring countries talk about it and ask Obama to come in and blow up Syria's air force and air defenses...

1. Our youth are too apathetic, drunk and/or high.
2. Our youth got our present moron elected - then quit watching the news.

But it would be funny to watch if they tried something.

1. Our elders were getting drunk and high long before we were able to.
2. Our elders elected moron after moron helping to get our country in the ridiculous state it is in now.

It's bullsh*t to pigeon hole people. Doesn't matter if it's their age, gender, race, sexual preference what have you.

I'm not suggesting that things were better before. I'm suggesting that there is no way that American youth would follow this lead (nor should they really - but that is another topic).

Is your point that you think you could get together enough interest to get American youth to protest all day (outside) for days/weeks on end (possibly without facebook) - facing down police in riot gear with tear gas over some list of issues?

The demographic that was most active for Obama is strangely silent given that he has done the exact opposite of _everything_ that he promised he would. He promised you change and delivered more of the same - or worse... Guantanamo? Still there. Military tribunals? Ongoing. Soldiers in Iraq? 50k still there. Patriot Act? Renewed. NAFTA? Still there - in fact he was just in South America bragging about free-trade. Finding Bin Laden? Nope. Fixing the economy? Regulating Wall Street? Cleaning up the Mortgage Industry? Fixing Social Security? Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope. We're bombing some North African dictator instead - a war started without congressional authorization and constitutionally unjustified - a war that is killing innocent Libyan civilians. etc. etc. etc. (I don't disagree with a lot of what he is doing - but to someone who voted for him - that in itself should be a huge problem. This is like a 3rd term for Bush2...)

Why are they silent? Is it that they are uninformed or apathetic or in a perpetual stupor as I suggest? Or are you secretly plotting the revolution? Is there at least a furious letter writing campaign that the press refuses to cover? Have they all secretly moved to Canada?

But, like I said - It would be fun to watch. So, let me know how it goes. I'll drive down to Memorial park, put down the tailgate and watch you - it shouldn't take more then an hour or two. (as long as you don't invite that whiny "blue eyes" singer)

My point was simply what you quoted. That being said, i do agree with you. I don't believe there is enough interest or passion in what is going on in the world today among the youth of our nation.
