Gosh I love Fords!

I just bought this 2011 Ford Focus 3 days ago. Not as sharp as the truck, but it's a smoooth ride.

Getting a little OT... I guess you guys heard that Obama wants to raise the avg mpg of large trucks, and the truck manufacturers are backing his plan. They say it'll add value to the trucks by making them more economical to operate, and I agree with that. What I'm wondering, is why the hell does it take a governmental mandate to make trucks more fuel efficient? I'd think that would be a good selling point. I'd sure as shit buy a Peterbilt over a Mack if it gave me 20% better gas mileage, especially at the estimated 6-7mpg. That's like driving down the road throwing dollar bills out the window. What am I missing here?

The government mandate is only for consumer vehicles. These trucks are technically focused as a different audience so those regulations will not apply to them. I do however think that the mileage will get a little better due to similar components.

I don't think so. I'll look it up, but on the radio they were talking buses, and large commercial trucks.

The plan announced by Mr. Obama in May 2010 orders further improvements in fuel efficiency for cars and light trucks made in 2017 and beyond, and in medium and heavy trucks made in 2014 through 2018. In addition to the fuel efficiency and pollution standards, Mr. Obama's directive will order more federal support for the development of new-generation cars like advanced electric vehicles and will instruct the Environmental Protection Agency to reduce pollutants from motor vehicles other than greenhouse gases.
Medium and heavy trucks represent only 4 percent of all vehicles on American highways, but they consume more than 20 percent of on-road transportation fuels, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists, an environmental advocacy organization. Improving the average fuel economy of these trucks by 3.7 miles per gallon would reduce American annual oil consumption by 11 billion gallons in 2030, the group said.

Wow.. I could have sworn it was just consumer cars. That's cool though.

Honestly I have a few gas guzzlers anyways. 2005 Pontiac GTO (6.0L v8) 2001 GMC Sierra (4.3L v6 that eats gas, but it will have a bigger engine in it eventually) and a 1986 Suzuki Samurai (Toyota Engine but it's lifted on 35s, just for mudding, not street use).
