I've used linux for many years, and that's never come up for me . If I get a chance I'll try to figure it out for you, assuming someone doesn't beat me to it.

Edit: I was just thinking, you probably need to install the *sv packages for your distribution (which one is it? I can maybe help), e.g. kde-i18n-sv, locales-sv

That should give you the font set, as for typing it, you can set up the keyboard layout in the KDE Control Center (haven't used Gnome, Xfce, etc... in a long time so I probably can't help there) under the Regional & Accessibility->Keyboard Layout section.

I haven't tried this as I've probably get to bed, but it should be pretty straight forward.

I am using gnome and fluxbox. Good idea though. I'll investigate the options for charsets and keyboard bindings in gnome. If all else fails I guess I could write a perl script (print "los" and bind its execution to a fluxbox keyboard shortcut.

EDIT: I dont see the kind of keyboard shortcut options in gnome that I would need to do it.

Linux works like a Mac, using dead keys, albeit less intuitive ones...but more comprehensive, by default (on english keyboards). Very linux, I suppose. At any rate :
