Looks like the whole Seneca nation has joined the lawsuit

        http://www.buffalonews.com/2010/07/0...-act-suit.html

Lets hope they get this abomination of a law declared unconstitutional.

        Edit: They got the reprieve

The fact that the Native American nations are driving this movement bodes very well for the defeat of PACT. No politician, regardless of party, wants to be labeled as anti-minority. Three cheers to our Native brothers & sisters!

More power to 'em. However, if the plaintiffs in this case ultimately win on a narrow ground that applies only to Indian tribes, it might not help the snus world much.

Are judges able to strike down a portion of a law in a way that applies only to the nations? I would think that the whole thing would be overturned and would have to be recrafted although I don't know that for a certainty.

Like he was going to even dare veto a law approved by 100% of one house and 90% of the other. I mean, I know he personally laid the depth charge that caused the Deepwater Horizon explosion, incited the riots in Toronto, and will be Patient Zero in the next global flu pandemic. . .but c'mon.

                Your correct xhepera,

                Obama is not the culprit.

It's the above you mention. All Obama did was sign it. McCain would have too.
The folks who crafted the bill and passed it with lobby money up their ass
are to blame. Blaming this on Obama is chicken shit and missing the real target!.
Keep your eye on the ball.

I know there were a few who were selling American products:
                    • Stonewall & Ariva Dissolvables
                    • Discreet Snus
                    • Nordic Ice Snus
                    • Camel Snus
                    • and various snuff

Not the greatest offerings but there was a chance they might expand
their snus offerings to the real thing! They know there's a market out
there and were not going to pass up the chance to expand.

Then, bam, along comes PACT and the saga continues...

Yes, it's possible. E.g., as I understand it, part of the Senecas' case is based on rights under their treaty with the federal government.

President Obama most-likely didn't think up the PACT act and it probably would have been passed anyhow. It's thuggery and control grasping for cash any way they can "justify" taking it. He's a smoker for crying out loud. Quitting tobacco is best, we all know that but even so he certainly has a much deeper understanding than most of the politicians but it isn't about what's right or nice, or even remotely different than a bully in a schoolyard that want's to take your lunch money.

The President is not the bully. I don't approve of the President but he shouldn't be the one to be blamed for this mess. To a degree you can't even say that people should have contacted their congressman. When did you hear about the bill? Certainly the public can't weigh in on every piece of legislation but this is a pisser. I don't think there was a possible way enough people could have heard about it on a national scale ('cos that's what it would have taken) to have any sort of impact. It was too late by the time there was any big hype about it. Even at that it's no secret that the government taxes the S out of tobacco. They have for as long as we've all been alive. Why would it be any different with this product? Well, maybe not all of us. PP is pretty old.

***there's a god damned chipmunk in the ceiling above me. WTF?!?!?!??!***

I'd imagine if there were a big hype about this bill as it was being written there would be a potential increase in unrest in our level of taxation. Remember what happened the last time it go out of control. I wonder how far it will go before it happens again? Perhaps we're getting close to the danger zone of taxation. Perhaps not...we keep electing these people.

Once the weak fall someone will take their place.
Where there is a buck to be made you can be sure
someone will figure out a way.

This is why I served 4 years in the military, to be taxed to death by parasites. They will take our tax dollars, give themselves raises, then use that money for idiotic, suicidal foolishness - like importing more African immigrants, or giving themselves raises and passing more BS laws like this.

If anyone thinks we're still "free" in the USA, or that the troops are "protecting our freedom," you're an idiot.

                                F.uck the USA!
