The two other briar pipes I bought on SF are

    and

And this is my beloved new IMP Lattice Meerschaum Pipe

      They are. Absolutely true.

The biggest mistake that new pipers make(I did too), is that they smoke the pipe as if it were a cigarette or even a cigar. Both approaches will be disastrous, but especially the former.

It's one of those things where it truly comes with experience.

That is a great looking meershum, Sage. Always keep in mind, you only get to drop a meershum once. I learned that the hard way. Have fun learning a new hobby, or enduring a new obsession. The Bjarne is beautiful. Freehands are always so unique.

Actually spirit72, I am living proof that it can come from just doing some good research and learning too. I have smoked cool from my very first pipe, but I took a week or so reading literally hundreds of threads on SF first. Folks who get themselves in trouble, like a much beloved member of our community who I seem to get great joy giving sh**, just think it is something they can jump right into without doing any learning first

I am planning on taking up hang gliding next spring. and yes, just like smoking a pipe, I will do much learning first.

Those look awesome! I tried smoking a pipe for a while, but I just developed a drooling problem, so I quit! LOL!

Yes, smokers can be very generous.

On the pipe smoking forum I am on I was asking about Meerschaum pipes and someone said they has one that they didn't use and they would give to me. So I was expecting a nice little inexpensive pipe...
Instead this is what he sent me.

Nice pipes guys. I have 8 corncobs and a cherry Boswell so far. Oh I tossed a cheap ass briar months ago, I think I was allergic to the bit or something.

I have the Meerschaum, a Savinelli, 4 Butz Chaquins, some Edwards, various no names, and 3 corncobs.
                  My favorites.... The corncobs.
You can not beat a corncob for a nice smoke. Plus at only 5 or 6 dollars you don't have to worry any about the pipe if you drop it.

I love that meerschaum, I get to smoke my first meerschaum in a few hours.

I suppose I will try a cob one day, they are just so cheap.. But all my briars smoke amazingly well, I am like one of the world's slowest smokers,, I truely already have sipping my pipe down to an art already, none of my pipes smoke warm. So really don't have a pressing need for a cob. And I won't lie. Part of my pleasure is image related. And a cob is simply not the image I am gong for. even if I am smoking alone at home, I love the look, the feel of a nice brier in my hand.

But other new smokers, I still always recommend a cob first.

Don't let them being cheap fool you.
And image wise.. think General Douglas MacArthur and Mark Twain. Two famous corncob pipe smokers.

But to each there own.. Like they say.. You don't pick the pipe, the pipe picks you.

I can totally pull off the corncob look. I really need a wizard pipe though
