I am on my second tour in Afghanistan, in an area west of Kandahar called Aziz zullah. I bought some naswar from a local shop and I paid .50 cents USD for each package (roughly 46 afs to the dollar). The owner of the shop told me that the older generations generally tend to use the powder form and the younger often prefer the "cake" style. One reason is because the cake is more portable and the powder is better suited for use near dwelling space. The man said to use for 15 minutes then spit out. I took his advice and after the first 3-4 minutes, I felt a tingling sensation on my tongue -call it a burn if you will. About 5 minutes later my inner temperature began to rise and I took off my jacket i was wearing. About 10 minutes later I began to feel slightly dizzy and my head had a little throb. I am not adding embellishment to my experience, simply sharing the sensations it gave.

As an added bonus I am including images of the naswar and a few photos of the vendors who sold it to me. Afghanistan is a very demanding environment to live in. Naturally the people are very demanding for something that packs a "punch". The winters over here in the open plains are rather harsh -putting it lightly. With that, can someone tell me what the packages read please? Thanks for reading...

Naswar is some pretty strong stuff, but that depends on the type used.

The pack reads "Malik special Bannu naswar" Malik being the name of the person and Bannu being the region where its produced, Bannu is actually well known for producing good strong naswar. Bannu is on the Pakistani side of the border.

At the bottom there are two addresses for where to buy i.e the "bazar" or market where its sold.


I remember when a friend had some very strong naswar and every time I took a pinch it would make me want to take a crap even if I'd just had one I'd want to go again

The package says "product of China"
