    American snuff

Ive been snusing for a year now and just recently received a can of Toque toffee snuff in a trade and love it!! There is a local tobacco shop in my town that sells nasal snuff. What are some of the good brands they would possibly carry? I'm guessing they would be American brands, I was thinking of an aniseed flavor, any suggestions?

Well, if it's American snuff, it will be scotch snuff, which is a very fine smokey type, often used orally. These will be plain, and sweet. I'm not a big fan of them, but they have their place as a nasal and oral snuff.

Some American shops will carry the Poschl brand from Germany. I've never seen the Lowen Prise, but that's a licorice, maybe aniseed flavor.

If they are American snuffs you will not find flavors in the way that you will with English types. With US Snuffs you basically have a variation on a single theme (dry, finely ground snuff with a smoky BBQ like flavor). There are sweet and plain versions of this theme. I would start with a sweet (Navy, Tube Rose, Honey Bee) But mind you these are very different from Toque snuffs. They are harder to take, stronger in Nic, and provide a good deal more burn.

Now that is not to say don't try them........I started with American Scotches..................just go in with eyes open and expect a different snuff experience than with the flavored Toques.

You will see some peach and cherry Amreicans but these are NOT flavored with peach and cherry to the degree a toque would be. You may pick up a hint of something but they are primarily there for sweetener. Like I said American Snuff has one basic taste profile with several variation on the single theme.

On the other hand they may be something by Polch (probably Packard's Club and/or President). Both are good..........with a touch of menthol...............and very easy to take.

Let us know what you find and what you think

My favorite Americans are Tube Rose and WE Garrett. Like Dog said, they're very similar from one to another. My preference is the Conwood brands. They still use the paperboard tube, with a tin top. It doesn't keep the snuff as well as the plastic, but they look nicer. That way if you don't like the American snuffs, you still have a groovy retro dust collector for your shelf :^)

Poschl makes some of the best! President is amazing! Also try some Wilsons Crumbs of Comfort if you like spearmint.

I went back to the tobacco store today and picked up two Ozona President, one Gletscher Prise, one Wilsons Of Sharrow menthol plus, and one Ozona Orange. I have tried the President and like this one. I dont really get a citrus taste, mostly menthol, but it is a good one. I'll let you know what I think of the others as I try them.

All the tobacco shop had were menthol snuffs. I dont mind, some are better, like the Wilsons of Sharrow menthol plus, it burns, oh so good! The Ozona President is one of the ones I liked as well as it was easy to take and the mirror case it comes in is cool. THe Gletscher Prise was just another menthol snuff to me but I will still use it. I havent tried the Ozona Orange yet.

Can you guys reccomend some other WoS snuff that is not menthol? I'll see if my store will get it for me.

EDIT: I just tried the Gletscher Prise again and picked up a hint of something other than the methol, probably the Columbia oil. This one is better than I first thought.

Wilsons, apart from their menthols, has a popular Toast, No22, and apart from a toast, the next popular style is called an SP, and they have Best SP, which is a good one, Tom Buck as well. Their Chocolate Orange is good too, I traded that off, now wish I'd kept it.

Have you tried an American scotch snuff? Local shop should have it, and they are not menthol. They are different but somewhat are similar to european toast style.

No, the store I went to only has the Poschl snuff and this last time the WoS menthol plus. I havent found any scotch snuff or any other snuff anywhere else. But I do live in Iowa so that may have something to do with the selection I can get. I'll ask the shop owner if he will order some for me.
