    Nasal Snuff in Mouth?

I think my uncle has been using nasal snuff for years but putting it in his lower lip like dip. What he uses is light brown and like powder.

Can you use nasal snuff like dip? I wonder if that is what he uses or if it is mouth snuff?? I just thought I would ask y'all.

I've heard of people doing that, but I'd think they'd be more likely to use something like NTSU in their mouth since that's probably the wettest, coarsest snuff that I've ever seen.

Christi.....More than likely your uncle is using an American Scotch/Sweet. Most were originally made for dipping I believe,In fact the cans still say "May cause gum disease and tooth loss".I have not tried dipping with the few cans I have...as I find the flavor and nicotine quite good up the nose! Thanks for the replies. I think I might call him this evening and find out what exactly he is using.

@TOM-You put the nasal snuff in you mouth? How do the flavors work out when doing this?

I think the wiz is right. That sounds like what Tom is using. I have a can of the Devoe, I might try that!

Yes, it's Scotch snuffs, which are plain and sweet, a few flavored. It's not "nasal snuff", like the European brands, like Wilson or Poschl, they are made for dipping, but they originated as a nasal snuff brought from Europe maybe in the 1700's, and eventually gained more popularity as a "chew". But since they are dry powdered tobacco, they can be snuffed too, and I think they have a similarity to the European toast style. Many groceries sell them, and I believe 99.9% of them are used as a dip.

I've done this with American snuff. It's pretty good but I have come to not like spitting. I still do it when I get a scotch sample from Nicotine Rush but no longer actively seek it.

If you are going to try it, use a spoon to place some in your lower lip and do not play with it. The flavor is not as intense as sniffing it and some are actually better when dipped (Rooster).

My favorite American snuff is Tube Rose for sniffing and dipping.

I've never tried dipping nasal snuff and am not sure I would try it.

Is that you over to snuffhouse? Several posts regarding dipping the Scotches?

After reading those posts as well as several snuff history articles, I was curious enough to try it out with Swisher Honey Bee.

1/8 of a teaspoon or less in the lower lip. Tasted like a honey drop candy and the nic came on like gangbusters.

Unfortunately after 'bout 30 minutes I felt like I'd been kicked in the gut.

I do like the Scotch Sweets, but I'll stick with sniffin' over dippin'!

I have done it several times with buttercup and honey bee. Hell yea its a good nic hit and tastes pretty good too. I never play with it or move it around. I just let it set. No spitting and pretty much nothing to swallow. I always removed it after about 20-30 minutes. I just take a tissue, wrap part of it around my index finger and swish it out. Always comes out cleanly as its wet and sticks to the tissue very well. Y'all need to give it a try.

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Yeah, I post at snuffhouse too under the same user name.
Generally, dipping scotches do not make alot of salaiva for me. Maccoboy did though. There are many I haven't done, and I don't want to build a giant stockpile of cans, as I have a few now, and I don't do it everyday like snus. I did really like the Dixie Sweet, and Honey Bee stands out. But one I thought was really good as a chew, is Checkerberry. If you are interested in dipping a scotch, you should get some Checkerberry. It stands out and is unique. Most of the plain scotches are not very flavorful, some are rather bland, I thought Honest was pretty bland, but then they are just powdered plain tobacco, as far as I can tell, and the sweets are sweet, sometimes with some slight flavor, like Honey Bee, which is very honeyish, Maccoboy has rose, it was rather salty I thought.

The really old school way favoured by old ladies in the south was to chew a baccer stick till it was frayed like a brush and dip it in the scotch snuff and rub it on the gums.

I've heard that, but imagine doing that? It doesn't seem like it would work well.

It's been done that way all over the south for at least 150 years. So I am guessing it works quite well. Used to watch my ex's 94 year old Grandma do it all the time.

My 92 year old great-grandmother did it that way most of her life. I used to watch her dip her snuff all the time.
