    American Scotch Snuffs

Any fans of these here? They have a dual usage ability as a nasal snuff and a dip.

    Bruton
    W.E. Garrett
    Honest
    Red Seal

There are a lot of them.
They are kinda sorta like the European "toast" style.

    Personally, I'm not a fan.
But they are often easy to find at groceries, and not too bad a price for the amount.

I've been curious about American snuff as my local gas station carries some. Are the as "safe" as European snuff?

I like them a good bit, both the plain scotches, and the sweets. I like a lot of smoke in the plain scotch. WE Garrett is my favorite in that category. So far it looks like Tube Rose is my favorite on the sweet side. It's very rich, with chocolate notes, and a smoky finish.

Anyone who is new to snuff, or even new to Americans, approach with extreme caution. For the most part they're extremely fine, and it's very easy to snuff too much, too deeply.

        Edit:
Curious... I'm not sure how that happened :^/

Yeah, I agree with that. I've had both. They are very light and fine, and not an easy snuff.

I have a few American snuffs myself...I'm more partial to the "sweet" snuffs as they're called instead of the "scotch" snuffs, which to me seem too smoky unless they're mixed with something else. I especially like the Peach Sweet Snuff, Honeybee, Buttercup, Carhartt Sweet, and Checkerberry. They're a little finer and dryer than other snuffs, but they're very good.

I am not really a fan. I prefer a heavier snuff, I like to sniff huge piles and the American snuff NOT recommended for that.

Agree with Sage, the American stuff is harsh and way to dry/fine. I can barely even grab a pinch of it.

I haven't had 'em all, and there's a few I'd like to try but... Rooster is NICE... for sweets I really like Red Seal, as it's not too sweet. Good real sweets (for me) are Tops & Honey Bee.

I prefer sweets for regular use especially Tube Rose. I find the scotches to be good when I'm in the mood for a smoky, heavier snuff.

I actually tried "dipping" american snuff when I was dipping and it wasn't bad, I just do not reccomend it if you don't like to spit.

I dipped them too, and it wasn't bad. I'm not a dipper, and don't like to spit, but I'll try about anything. I preferred dipping the Scotch snuff over regular moist dip.

I have been mixing Scotches with darker moist snuffs and had some good blends, the Lotzbeck Vanilla Rooster mix is very pleasant and a constant carry for me. The Honey bee is good to go as is, and Whiskey and Honey is a great mixer along with Spanish Gem.
