So, I ate the last of the ben&Jerry's today
I can't believe you eat that crap. Knowing what they do, what they support, and the fact that their product is total shit, dude.....DON"T DO IT!! Ok, I'll be honest, I did do a pint of Chunky Monkey....and I liked it a little.....but, I know that they hate this country, they work against freedom, so NONE of their crappy products will ever touch my lips again. Check out Haagendazs peanut butter chocolate.....Yummy.

I'm not sure how far they get out of the Midwest, but Dean's ice cream is the best I've ever had... Hell all of their dairy products are some of the best I've tasted!

Not that I want you to end it all, but Häagen-Dazs is a made up name. Just a marketing gimmick by two guys in the fifties. I wouldn't guess about their socio-political views. I think they are a large enough corporation to stay out of such affairs.

Quick Ice Cream story, one of my first IT consulting jobs was for an old American dude who worked for a major Japanese Ice Cream company in Okinawa. He used to make Ice Cream for the troops in Vietnam! (I was in the Air Force, making some jack on the side) He was in charge of production, and was the only foreign dude on staff. I setup the first network in the plant, and got paid in yen, which rocked compared to the dollar at the time. Anyway, this dudes Ice Cream was awesome!! I brought home free stuff all the time, my kids were in heaven. I wish I could get it here.

              Mongrul,
              Make your own.
Get an ice cream maker and just go crazy. I chuck tons of fruit, fudge an' cookies in mine. My wife even makes one from marscaponi cheese and it's amazing.

seriously, Mongrul is batshit crazier than Ben and Jerry combined. Just how does a F***ing ice cream company "work against freedom"? I love my country, butyou'd probably shit if I shared with you my "commie" social views, but I consider myself a patriot, and a proud American gun owner. Granted freedom is all about being able to share ideas like ours and disagree on forums like this one. I'm not judging your dislike of Ben and Jerry's OR your political views, which probably differ significantly. I eat it because I like it. We both support the tobacco industry which by and large shows blatant disregard for the health of its customers and has been known to target children, but we use tobacco because WE LIKE IT. It's not about politics, it's about preferences. I think it's safe to say we both probably have enough weapons and survival gear to be 2 of the last men standing after the men in power F*** the world up beyond repair. At that point, it'll be about working together, now go build your bunker, friend. There is no black and white.

EDIT: Ben & Jerry are businessmen that at least have the balls to support charities instead of saving all their money to buy coke to snort off of the chests of teen hookers. I don't see how anyone who isn't either an extremist or a mental-case would be against a company that supports small American family farms and gives money to help educate children. I'm not saying they're saints, but saying they hate the country that's given them so much success? Are they running around feeding terrorists steroid-enhanced icecreams? Mongrul, do you type with your fingers or your ass?

no probs. I should have quoted the particular part that set me off.
I know what I wrote sounds a tad harsh but I felt as if a dude that's never met me was implying that I was somehow unAmerican for enjoying my commie icecream. On that note too, if anyone can come up with proof that Ben&Jerry's ice cream company hates America and is against freedom, I'll swear off ice cream all together...and that would do me some good, as I need to lose a few. So yeah, if that's true, I'll quit ice cream for life, and I'll eat my hat.

I deserved that. I didn't mean to imply what you got out of my initial post. I sometimes get a little too fired up, especially now with what’s going on in the financial markets. However, my assertion about B & J’s has merit.

Here's a little snippet from their site. http://www.benjerry.com/features/50_ways/50ways.cfm

                          20. Broadcast a peace message using a peace flag, poster, badge, t-shirt, or bumper sticker.

                          21. If you own a gun, keep it unloaded and locked up. Store the bullets in a separate place and hide the key safely away from children.

                          24. Attend an educational series on non-violence. Look up peace & justice organizations in your state at United For Peace & Justice and call them for information on educational series.

A quick look at who is associated with UFPJ gives us a few of these gems:

                          Communist Party USA
                          Democratic Socialists of America
                          Black Radical Congress (BRC)
                          CODEPINK: Women for Peace
Committee in Solidarity with the People of Iran (CISPI)
League of Revolutionaries for a New America
                          National Network on Cuba (NNOC)
US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation
                          Young Communist League (YCL)

Only to name a few. See the whole list here: http://www.unitedforpeace.org/articl...t=type&type=27

I assure you, these people don't love this country like we do. B & J's supports them, that's a fact. If you've seen their protests, you know what I'm talking about. All of these groups want more government.

That's why I went batshit crazy when I found out about the government stopping our ability to get SNUS! Possibly. They have no right to do that. I'm all about getting the government out of our lives, and letting freedom, free markets, and caring people in the private sector solve our problems. Not the knuckleheads in government. Look at what they've done.

But again, your reaction tells me that I need to be more careful. I appreciate this community, and the diverse people who come together here.

                            Mongrul; fair enough!
And I didn't mean for that to sound like a personal attack either, bastage's reaction caused me to re-read my post, and seeing as both of you don't know what a mellow guy I am[and a guy that stays out of politics for the most part] my reaction probably sounded as crazy as yours did. After reading your reaction I went to B&J's site and saw the gun thing. While I think it's a good idea if you have children, I too, prefer to keep at least 1 piece loaded for home defense. Thanks for the explanation and the olive branch, I bet when it comes down to our mutual distrust of the Feds, we probably have more in common than we might initially think.

ps: I appreciate the clarification, but I'm not going to stop eating ice cream! I think Roderick from Toque's tip is a good one, I'm gonna figure out how to make my own ice cream, and Mongrul; if I come p with any must-try recipes, you'll be the first to know!

After I went to bed, I got to thinking about some of my favorite things...like Starbucks, I still drink it, even though I know they are a progressive company who, if I dug deep enough, probably support the same groups! I still go to Seattle every chance I get for fried shrimp and oysters at Jacks Place across from Pike Street Market. That would certainly make me a hypocrite if I insisted people boycott products they love because of who or what the owners support. More proof that I need think things through before letting my ass, err, fingers hit the keyboard! ops:
