    Tobacco falling out of nose?

So one thing that prevents me from snuffing in public is that, at least when I'm sniffing a scotch, snuff always falls out my nose after I get it in the front. This can get all over my clothes and just plain looks weird. Am I the only one that has this problem? I usually, once the snuff is in my nose and settled a bit, blow out through my nose to get rid of the excess. A friend of mine said it's like I'm a snuff dragon haha.

Also when I snuff a lot the inside of my nose just gets darker. So as much as I LOVE snuff I don't feel comfortable sniffing a pinch on the subway or whatever. It's pretty much something I do when I'm at home. If I know I'll be out of the house for more than a couple of hours I bring my tin with me so I can take a tiny discrete pinch to keep my mind limber if I need it, but generally speaking I keep it behind closed doors.

do you not wipe after taking a pinch with a hanky? You should always do that as it removes the excess. I blow my nose about once an hour to remove the build up of brown. I take snuff on the train all the time, stops odd people sitting next to you

Yeah, wipe your nose after taking snuff - I check my nose using the reflection on the screen of my phone. Also, if you're out and about a doser is handy. I'm always blowing my nose after taking snuff - after about a few minutes I need to blow (as it were).
Some snuff makes your nose go darker than others. I usually find that the lighter finer snuffs like Wos Best SP don't darken my nose but a GH will.
Snuff will fall out of your nose with the coarser blends especially.

If the snuff is in your nose and then falls out.............snuff........then pinch your nose closed.......I do that with some of the more coarsely ground snuffs and it keeps it all in place

Also don't start the day with a scotch....let your first snuff be something a bit coarser.........a Molens works well.......the nose will moisten up a bit and provide a pallet so to speak for the finer offerings……..

this also works for people just breaking into the Scotches and Toasts………the moistness helps keep it form hitting the back of the throat as much
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

I tend to use Poschl snuffs in the morning, very moist, then as vehan says, you can take dryer snuffs later and they will stay in. As mentoned pinching your nostrils works well.

Thanks for the good advice. Yeah everyone's nose is a bit different but I think I've got more of a handle on it now.

I'm also concerned about inhaling tobacco dust with the finer snuffs. Try as you might I think a little bit is going to get into your lungs no matter what, and powder isn't meant to be inhale. But I'm just being more careful now. I really like the suggestion of using something moister in the morning to develop a baseline of moisture. I'm also on cogentin to manage a pseudoparkinsonism induced by psychiatric medication (2.5mg 2x/day of aripiprazole if you're curious), cogentin being an anticholinergic, so it dries me out a bit from top to bottom. Of these snuffs, are any particularly good for "moistening" the nose? I'm just curious if any of them jump out as being perfect for the first snuff of the day to get some mucus flowing:

              F&T's Bordeaux
              Gawith Hogarth's Jockey Club
              Wilson of Sharrow's Grand Cairo
              Samuel Gawith's Kendal Brown

May I just retract a comment I made about a doser. Don't bother. I just bought one and it's awful.

It might seem counter intuitive, but I find that the more snuff you take, and I mean a good lump on the side of the wrist, the less snuff that is taken into the lungs.

My husband is the same way..so he sticks to whites because I guess white powder on your nose is better than brown??? I am pretty sure people don't think "tobacco" first if they see his messy nose. He's kinda backwards and silly at times but I'm stuck with him.

I know you are avoiding fine snuffs but just wanted to share my lil story

I found a good way to do it is to take the pinch, then immediately blow out into a hankey. Not blow your nose but just get rid of the excess snuff so that you just have a coating on your nose rather than a pea-sized lump of tobacco.

I'll start with Dholakia White. This is absurdly fine. I can sniff a scotch or a toast all day without any complaints but this snuff is finer than dust....
