Sternecker- Echt Fresco

This is a Schmalzler style snuff which means it is fermented and usually scented with dark flavors and spices. Sternecker Snuffs are produced by one man (Alfred Sternecker ) in small batches in Germany and this one (the Echt Fresco) is the best Schmalzler I have had (Echt Fresco means genuine fresco in German). Also, there is no beating the price (as of 1-11-13 it is $8.81 for 100g)

Let me add that many Schmalzler tend to be heavy in flavor, heavy in moisture and heavy (or course) in grind. They can be hard to get into the nose and hard to keep from rolling out of the nose. That said, Echt Fresco is a joy to take. The moisture and grind is just right. It is almost fluffy. The way it handles is very much on par with the Molens Virginias—maybe with just a tad more moisture.

But the scent is where this one steals your heart. It is full rich and deep, like walking into an old world bakery where you are greeted by the warm smells of fresh baked walnut raisin bread with spices and a touch of brown sugar….And yet the flavor is not overwhelming or cloying. It is the closest thing to an all-day Schmalzler that I know of. If you have yet to try a Schmalzler or have yet to try a Sternecker….you owe it to yourself to give this one a whirl. It is truly an old world masterpiece and my snuff discovery for the year

Sternecker is one of the best values in snuff. I'm a fan of the Germans anyway, and getting 100g for <$10 is a bargain that can't be missed.

I bought this one recently because i like the dark moister snuffs. Its very nice. I have one foot in each world. Blonde powdery and strong and dark moist and long lasting hit. Sternacker doesnt give me the strong hit i want sometimes but since i dont want the "hit" all the time its a really nice. Its fluffier ( and a better texture IMO) by a little bit than Princes by..".I oh darn forget...W of S pretty sure, but doesnt have quite the same hit. Sternacker is more natural than Princes. I recommend Princes for those who want dark and moist, not as fluffy as Sternaker and scented quite a bit initially then relaxes to a nice dark tobacco natural scent after. A little better hit and you can use lots of both at one time for long lasting effect. Snus of the nose?

I can't add much to Snusdog's review of this, it has a very pleasant and enjoyable aroma but I can't use it too much because for some reason it makes me sneeze like no other snuff I've tried. Massive, prolonged sneeze attacks followed by a clogged nose . I haven't had a reaction like this to any other snuff, schmalzlers included. It was fresh when I got it and has been stored in an airtight jar. I still revisit it from time to time and put up with the sneezing because it's just so damn tasty. I would recommend this to anybody even though I have a bit of an adverse reaction to it; that's a problem with my nose and definitely not a fault with the snuff.
