Can we get an "OTHER" section for the Chewing Tobacco Reviews section? Thanks.
OK, I finally got a bag of this WB I have been curious about for a while now.
As we know, all the big name chews we see at the grocery stores, such as RED MAN, Levi Garrett, etc. are sweet. Yes, they taste good, as sweetened tobacco leaf shreads should. But, while I like them, I always wondered, where is a non-sweet chew? And after some net search, I find there are 2, that I am now aware of, WB, and Havana Blossom. I also have a pouch of the Havana Blossom I have not opened or tried yet and will review that when I do.
Right now, it's WB. I think I made the thread title right, as on the label it has WB in the middle, and on top of it, it says Extra Long, and under the WB it says, Cut, so I think that means Extra Long Cut.
Well, the packaging for this is odd. It's small, like made for an elf. It was $3.50, and it's a little 1.2oz pouch. Compared to regular chew pouches, which are 3oz, this is small, and the way it's made is different too.
This is made by US Smokeless Tobacco Company, and is 100% American tobacco. This is, I think, the only pouched chew type product made by USST.
Let's check it out. Smell? I don't know... definiately has a smell, earthy, kinda reminds me of something, maybe a food? I don't know, but it's an earthy, deep bold smell. Anyway, let's try some. Very different.... the cut is very cery fine, but fine in length, like hair, as I have heard one say, very thin strands, kinda reminded me of those very thin white asian noodles. Anyway, I have some in my mouth now. It pinches great, in that it's cut, when you grab it, it's all together in a mass of a hair ball.
OK.... so far, this is very different form standard pouched chew, and I like it. Now to get to taste.... tastes like it smells. Has this certain smell/flavor that seems very .... barbecue? Definately a food item, I had a flash of an image of those little sausages in sauce... Well, it's a very unique taste, like a smokey barbecue of vienna sausages.... yeah, I don't know but that's what I am getting. Is it good? I'm really not sure, to me, anyway. I do like the cut, the string cut, which is what I have said before would be a great cut, and this does that. I don't like the little pouch, but maybe, is this the same weight as a can of dip? Eh, small pouch is OK, the thing I am thinking I don't like, or I should say, what I like least, is the taste. Why can they make a COPENHAGEN chew, just like this, but have that flavor blend of original Copenhagen? I think that would be great. The string cut makes like a ball of tobacco in your mouth.
I think I'm feeling some nic-lift with it. Just such an odd taste.... maybe it's something that would take a few times to really like. But this cut, that's the outstanding feature. I think if Levi was run threw a thin shredder it would be even better, maybe... I don't know what to say anymore about this. It's very unique, but the very odd taste I am not sure if I like, it's not downright bad, it's weird, and the cut... I'm having second thoughts about that now, as I have it in my mouth, as this compressed ball of hair-like shredded baccy does not break apart, so I'm doing slight chewing on it, and it's like what I'd imagine a cows cud.
It's a weird thing, and I can't give it a rating as I just don't know what to think. I think the cut may be too thin for optimal enjoyment. And the taste is not upfront good, it's a weird taste to me, bordering on not good, to me.
But, you never know about these things till you try them. Overall, as I sit here, with this barbecued vienna sausage hair shred ball in my mouth, I don't think I like it.
I'll review the Havana Blosson later.
