Dumb question but I'll take my chances ;-)

Thinking far into the future here...let's say the PACT act passes and we can't buy snus online and none of the stores in the area will sell it. Rather than return to cigs (and probably kill myself in the process), is it possible to use something like one of the Skoal pouches in the upper lip, and would it still make you spit tons of icky brown yucky stuff?

Being a female, the thought of having to walk around with a spit bucket doesn't really appeal to me

You dont want to swallow dip... It makes you very sick..

If you must use tobacco, then just use the Camel or Marlboro Snus.. Or try to find the Klondike or Tourney snus at stores.

I find it sad that even here on a forum dedicated to the use of a form of smokeless tobacco we have the same propaganda that people use to call for the ban of the product we use.

Oral cancer is not prevelent and it is not considered a "common" cancer. Of those with Oral cancer, studies show the percentage of tobacco users is dropping. Alcohol, smoking, HPV and other viruses, etc all show to put a user at much higher risk than american smokeless.

          So, in conclusion:

          Snus>American Smokeless > Smoking
Alcohol mixed with any tobacco greatly increases chances of oral cancer

I see pics of that poor guy, but it seems he is the only one. Now if they had a group of 100 guys like that holding a can, they might have an issue. I hope our freedoms are not lessened anymore, and we can continue to buy snus online. I am a 42 yr old American citizen military vet, and I believe it's my right to choose if I wish to use tobacco. I am glad to have found Tourney snus locally though, for if such a bad thing happens, this snus isn't too bad I think, and I'd use it. But still...

Hold on a sec,I understand we all like our tobacco and everything, but you're not going to convince me that dip doesn't cause mouth cancer and I don't appreciate being accused of spreading "propaganda".And the whole "common cancer" nonsense doesn't really apply as I'm sure lung cancer wasn't all too common before cigarettes.Users of dip are FAR outnumbered by smokers. If the same amount of people who smoked used dip mouth cancer would probably be ALOT more prevelant.Don't get me wrong,I love tobacco and think any adult should be able to use it as they see fit,and like I posted previously snus hasn't been shown to cause ORAL cancer, pancreatic being a totally different issue.Alcohol,HPV and other viruses have nothing to do with what I said as we could all list things that cause cancer (the sun,red meat, etc.) but that would be irrelevant at best.SOME forms of tobacco use carry with them serious consequences and sticking you head in the sand pretending they don't doesn't help your cause or any of ours. And this is coming from a guy who smoked for 15 years just to quit and go straight into snus, snuff, and e-cigs.

I dipped Copenhagen for 15 years. I swallowed 90% of the juice. I still have my jaw and stomach. Worst I ever got from it was some acid reflux and a bit of gum recession. And that was 15 years ago before I started smoking. Dip is probably worse for you than snus, and both are magnitudes healthier than smoking. I'll take my chances.
Saying that using dip is a death sentence or even implying that it WILL cause cancer is foolish or disingenuous at best. Some smokers never develop cancer or any smoking related diseases at all. I still hear, from people in the snus community, that Nasal Snuff will give you cancer. One guy implied that one can could kill me. Basing his information on old studies of American snuff. I looked around and cannot find one case of nasal or oral cancer that could be proven to come directly from snuff. That poor guy in the picture is sad, but there is no information that Skoal caused his problem. He could have ate to much "red meat" and it got blamed on the dip since he had a can in his pocket.

I never said it WILL cause cancer, only that it can.Just cause you still have your jaw doesn't mean others haven't lost theirs.I'm assuming you still have your lungs too,so by your logic cigarette smoking doesn't cause lung cancer.Look,we're adults and free to make our own choices, good or bad,but saying you can't get sick from smokeless tobacco use is nothing less than straight up denial.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one as we have totally hijacked this thread.

I agree to an extent with all of this. But the thing is, I think some people are just more genetically predisposed to such things, and certain things may trigger it. Like steroids, everyone said was so bad and can kill you, sure it can, but it doesn't mean it will. Some people can dip, smoke, and shoot heroin their whole life, and lead a normal length life, some just can't. Same with foods too. Diabetes and such, some people can live on cup cakes, never get fat or become diabetic, while others do. I think it's just a genetic predispostion.

I think you're right on there. That kid was in his early 20s when he got mouth cancer. Tobacco may have accelerated/exacerbated a condition, but I think it was more bad luck on his part.

I posted a link a long time ago about a 90year old guy who got a little spot of cancer where he'd placed his snus for 70 years. Does snus cause mouth cancer? Perhaps... Someone who is predisposed may get it early for whatever reason. I wouldn't condemn snus as a cause of mouth cancer though, and I wouldn't treat American snuff as the smokeless equivalent of cigarettes.

                          All tobacco products contains TSNA's.

This means the risk of cancer goes up. Whether is affects you or not... is unknown... but risk does go up...

                            Love ya man

Oh and the point for my posts...duh...I just wanted to say that we are not a cookie cutter race. What happens to one person certainly is not always going to happen to another. I think we can say that if you don't use tobacco at all, your CHANCES are far less for developing a certain type of cancer than if you do. On the flip side just because you use tobacco doesn't mean for certain that you ARE going to get cancer. We take our lives in our own hands every day we open our eyelids. I think that is biggest thing to keep in perspective. There will always be people out there who feel that for one reason or another they KNOW what is best for you just because they feel they are superier.

Oh and the comment of "there are no stupid questions only stupid people" should be tagged next to the OP's title.

Edited because I do NOT want the OP to think I am calling her stupid. Just a funny saying that came to mind when I read your title. HUGS!!!
