Non-compliant FDA brands : another perspective.

I was talking to a friend who works for one of the companies (not saying which) that is not on the FDA list, and he told me that one on of the reasons they are not complying with the FDA is because disclosing their ingredients would allow their competition to see what is different about some of their products and some of what goes into their snus - protecting their trade secrets, so to speak.

I can't say this is true of all non compliant FDA brands, but this is another perspective to look at when trying to see why some companies won't gonthat extra mile to get their snus onto our shores.

But how would this do it? They all have ingrediant lists on their cans anyway. As far as their recipe goes, that would not be listed, it's not on the FDA compliant snus, nor on American dip cans. It would just be in the FDA file somewhere.

Those files can be accessed by the public though.

Well, if General, and Ettan, and Onyx, V2, and Gullivere don't mind, I don't see why anyone else would.

There are ways to do it without giving the actual recipe. Justin has posted about this on here. I believe Swedish Match breaks the secret ingredients down into such small bits and pieces it becomes unclear where they actually come from...

As I understand the FDA wants it broken down like JT suggested anyway. If you report to them that you are using "Aunt May's Special Citrus Flavor" they send you back to the remedial class.

You all know bergamot is one of the essential flavours in a lot of snus but I dare you to find it on Swedish Match's ingredient list...

Bergamot Constituents:Linalyl acetate, bergamotine, beraptene, d-limonene, linalool... + some 300 others

Once you break your ingredients down into their smaller constituents it's one giant puzzle because various flavours share some of the same constituents.

Is this how they break down a bad ingredient/additive? Then the FDA really has no control over what a tobacco company can add into the mix.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I was just going to ask this very ?

That would explain when you break it down and 'google' American dip, you get the referenced ingredients of fiberglass and formaldehyde.

Well, there's a lower limit too. I'm sure that they will suspect something if all your ingredients are listed on the periodic table.
