    Using dip like los

Has anyone tried this before? I picked up a can of Copenhagen Long Cut and tried something out of curiosity: I baked the tobacco into a cylinder and put it in my upper lip. Not only that, but I didn't spit at all. To me, its actually easier and quicker than baking traditional snus. It stays together longer, takes less time to bake, and hits harder than General Esktra Sterk. Am I onto something that hasn't been tried before? If PACT passes, I mind end up doing this full time.

I tried this a couple of weeks ago with some Timber Wolf Natural Long Cut. I chose this dip because of the supposed lower tsna levels, and if I decided I liked it, it could be something I might want to stick with. This was my first can of dip in almost 15 years, and I have to admit, I enjoyed it. I baked it as tightly as the cut would allow, and also never found the need to spit. I didn't, however, enjoy it as much as snus. The quick and powerful nic kick was nice, but I've acclimated myself to snus to the point where I still prefer it. I'd go to using dip like this ONLY if real swedish snus became completely unobtainable. But even if PACT is signed, I'd still rather pay the extra taxes that'll be tacked on to snus rather than switch to dip. but yeah, upper-lipping the stuff was a nice little experiment.

Snus or dip. to a great extent, aren't that different. It is the upper lip or lower lip that is responsible for most of the need to spit. Wanna see? Put some los in your lower lip, see how much juice your los will suddenly start producing

I used to dip cope occasionally with a friend who also used it occasionally, and usually I would put it up top. I still spat though, just got a lot more juice than with snus. It could also be that I'm not used to having dip in my mouth. Some of my first posts here were about the fact that I used to have to spit a lot with snus... Took me several months to get over it actually. I dunno why.

I "baked" a "pris" of redman and upper lipped a couple times. Didn't have to spit much. I have huge snus pockets though.

Oral tobacco is Oral tobacco really. Placement is preference and preference is placement.

Just don't do under the tongue. I warned you.

if you're referring to the burn, I can only imagine. that was the first thing I noticed when I first upper-lipped a pinch of dip. for the first minute or so, it was like a hot coal against the gums.

I think I would like the French Onion if it weren't so lumpy.

                Clam dip might be cool.

I used to do this all the time when I was playing baseball because the catchers mask rests on my bottom jaw, and upper decking it is the only way to go. I did always notice a reduction in spit, but I think that dip will make your upper lip fall off same as the bottom one though. [/quote]

                    Exactly!! And thank you!!!

Ya'll go ahead and talk about juice and TSNAs and spitting.

Three months of steady use and your lip will be creased and burned with white spots and your teeth will actually hurt.

I dipped for over 20 years (Timber Wolf for a good deal of the time- since it was mentioned) and there is a reason I quit. There is a reason I go to the pain in the ass of ordering snus from overseas instead of just popping down to the zip-n-go whenever I need a can. There is a reason why the PACT ACT matters and it’s not just back to dip with a ho-hum. And those reasons are every bit as important as the reasons many here left behind cigarettes.

A year before snus my dentist listed me as having precancerous legions on my gums. Those are now GONE. That’s not being a damn purist ya’ll. THAT’S WHY I’m a DAMN PUREST.

But ya'll go ahead. I mean you did try it once in college and nothing happened. O yea, and there was last week too.

It's time to shit or get off the toilet with this discussion. So here is the deal.

You dip Copenhagen or Skoal (your choice) for three months exclusively and if your gums are in the same condition as they are now

I WILL BUY YOU A ROLL OF DIP AND AN ICE TOOL TO GO WITH IT!!!!

Has no one listened to what the long time dippers on this forum say almost to the person?

I changed to snus because I knew I needed to get off of dip long long before I knew there even was such a thing as snus.

OK this has become a rant…………..sorry….

As someone who used to dip Cope and Skoal, I would have to agree with the Dawg. Thankfully I never got any lesions, but i have some pretty bad recession on the places in my lower gums where I used to place the dip, and my gums and teeth would get very sore.
I've been snusing for about 2 years now and my upper gums are fine. As with anything else, your milage may vary, but that's just my 2 cents. I occsionally lower deck my los, and it doesn't cause the problems that dip did for me.

                            Upper Lip Dip

A few months ago I tried this little experiment as well. I threw some Bandit pouches in my upper lip. It was okay for a while, then it began to drip and I had to spit. Not something I would do on a regular basis.

Snus and dip are two totally different products. Dip is fermented and snus is pasteurized (like food products). That process, along with the salt content and the upper-lip placement make the small amount of juice produced bearable, even if you swallow some. Not so with dip. Swallow some dip juice and let's see how you feel in a few minutes!

My point: the upper lip placement is NOT all that separates snus from other tobacco products. Dip is a far-less safe type of smokeless tobacco. Your first choice should be tobacco-free. If you must use tobacco go with the snus.

                            There's my two cents worth.
