    LOL
Does everyone remember the scene from Airplane, where one woman was going completely apeshit crazy and they had a whole line of people waiting to slap some sense into her...
Basically snus as we know it changes forever as soon as Obama signs this law, and we may not be able to purchase it AT ALL, but "NOW is not the time to worry?" When will that time be? After we can't order it at ALL? The time to NOT worry was the last ten years when the Republicans shot this bill down for a straight decade. The time to START worrying began when we elected the officials that passed this law. The time to start PANICKING began at 2:45 PM EST today.

    I say again, LOL.
The FDA bill is a lot less troubling than we originally thought it to be. Haven't you read any comments on this post except sagedil and mojave's? As soon as Obama signs this bill into law, which he's drooling to do, RJR and Lorrilard will shit a brick and bring it to the courts, meanwhile the bill signed into law by Obama will be suspended, pending review. You will have PLENTY of time to fill your freezers if it ever comes down to this. They gave the smokers until April before the taxes were increased, I'm sure we'll have a set date for whatever happens. Though I'm still not terribly worried about the FDA bill. You should be more worried about the PACT act, of which I'm not sure when it will go up for review or vote. I'm not forcing you to remain calm, but the last thing we need is a bunch of people running around like a headless chicken buying all of the snus out of stock.

was thinking the exact thing as I was coming home. I will be WAY pissed when I get paid the first and all the stores are out of snus cause everyone panicked and bought everything up.

Yes I have, but they all lack the same level of awesomeness that is contained in these two guys posts. :P

I wasn't advocating panic BUYING. I am however advocating prescriptive measures to circumvent the likelyhood of not having any snus on hand however far in the future we may go before this is reality.

So, NO- do NOT buy everything you can and deplete stock. This will raise the price of snus in the long run and cause immediate shortages. BUT, I do advocate making larger than normal purchases of snus from here on out as well as lobbying whoever we need to lobby in order to draw attention to our plight.

The FDA legislation is a long run existential threat, and a very bad one, through discretionary regulation of ingredients among other things, and a former staffer in Rep. Waxman's office who is a hysterical anti-tobacco zealot is being appointed to administer it, but it will not have immediate practical effect this calendar year. It does give the FDA very broad authority to do things it tried to do even without this legislative blessing in the 1990s, and very nearly succeeded back then, resulting in a narrow 5-4 court decision barely holding that they did need legislative sanction for what they were up to. Now they have it. But the new FDA authority does require setting up a new agency and process, and will take considerable time. PACT is indeed the more immediate problem. The FDA legislation alone, without PACT, would potentially allow us to sneak through the net with our small non-commercial Swedish internet orders.

I bet nasal snuff would be a good alternative once your supply of snus runs out. How long would one 25g can of toque last someone? It costs the same as snus in most cases, and will keep almost forever. I would probably stock up on nasal snuff too. MMmm...wilsons crumbs of comfort...............*drools*....It's mine! It's all mine you dirty bastards! Miiiiiiiiiiiiine!!!!

I think the both of us make some very good points, and generally we're dancing to the same beat. Lets keep it at that, because the last thing we need is to argue about something like this when everyone is feeling crappy about it. Luckily, we at SnusOn are a very friendly lot, and a fine group of debaters if you ask me. Aside from those of us who really, badly, need nicotine to function...it's important to remember that snus is not the most important thing in life, as much as you would like to think that, I know I do sometimes in the heat of the moment. When all is said and done, whatever happens in the coming months, we can all look back at our time as snusares and say we had one wild ride.

Hey, I agree 100%. We can argue with each other all day but at the end of the day we're just all guys on a snus forum hoping for the best when it comes to the subject that brought us all together in the first place.

Besides, nobody can out-debate me. I'm a Masterdebator.

Laying on the tracks to slow the PACT Act express train this year is really tough for any member of Congress. Besides the usual suspects comprised of the self-anointed advocates determined to rescue us against the presumed evils of all forms of tobacco use, PACT is a piece of legislative sticky-Velcro that has attracted the enthusiastic backing of a whole bunch of other constituencies you might not think of at first glance.

For example, it is the top legislative priority of the National Association of Convenience Stores. Think about it. And just how many little inconvenience store franchise owners do you 'spose there are throughout every Congressman's district? They have telephones, and postage stamps, and the logistical guidance of a full-time staff to lobby on Capitol Hill.

                  Phffffft.

Pardon me while I go to open my latest shipment of several pounds of blending pipe tobaccos and nasal snuff, just arrived at my door as I wrote this, which I am indeed also putting away in preparation for an eventual cold day in Hell, along with my snus.

I feel bad for those who have just joined us in SnusWorld. They're getting screwed big time. I calculated that I needed at least 1 year of NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) to be completely free of my smoking habit, and I got it. I could quit tobacco all together and be just fine now; but for them (it all depends on the person, but statistically speaking), there's not enough time to reap all the benefits of snus, which leaves the whole situation in a very sorry state. I'm also a bit ticked because I just got a brand spanking new IceTool and I might never have a chance to use for a lifetime, like I had wanted.

Guys, look. Once a nicotine addict, always a nicotine addict.

The only thing we need to do at this point is write some letters to the White House, and convince President Obama to become a snuser.

                      Problem solved.

For all we know, he might already be a snuser. (but, if he was, I guess he wouldn't sign this bill into law.) He was a nic gum user during the campaign...

I would like it noted that this was the fastest I've ever seen a thread blow up...5 pages...10 hours...impressive guys...truly impressive...glad to see we are all at least taking an interest instead of just watching as the train hits us...peace and love everybody...it's been a long long day.

I was quite a bit worried about PACT, and of course I still am, and partly because I'm too ****in lazy to check it out for myself. But, I'd like to make notice to everyone that NOW is not the time to **** up BuySnus and Northerner by ordering enough snus to last an ice age. This only creates shortages and strain on the system. If you want to stock up, I would suggest doing it little by little. Remember what happened in 1929 when the stock market crashed and everyone ran to the bank to draw their life savings? Capiche!

As for myself, right now, as I am feeling a bit nervous, over the next few weeks I will be ordering some different varities of snus and nasal snuff I always wanted but never could justify getting. I could spend my days enjoying snus and singing to the tune of "There's always tomorrow." but Right now, I think "live for today, cautiously" is a lot better applicable.

However, I reiterate, now is NOT the time to panic. If snus eventually is banned, I wont feel too terrible. I have no regrets at all. My using snus was never originally meant to be forever, even though I probably would at this point. I have achieved my goal, 1 year smoke free, and I'm not going back--with or without snus. I'm just glad I got over a years worth of enjoyment and fun out of snus, and whatever happens I will look back on it fondly.

Sorry for the rambling, disjointed post.

                                Cheers!
Unfortunately, we're not all as lucky. When the time comes that I can no longer get snus, I'll be back smoking again. I cannot function without nicotine, I've tried. So, thanks to the government, I will be back to smoking and giving myself cancer instead of using snus and being much less of a burden on the healthcare system. ****ing idiots.
