    Last try at Los

I am gearing up for another order and I am once again looking at los choices. Portions will remain my main choice but as a former dipper I find myself really missing working outside with a big mouthful of tobacco juice and spitting.

I have tried Roda Lacket and Knox los using a pris master and putting it in the top lip. Neither one seemed to generate much flavor and what flavor there was tasted of dirt to me. I have also tried OR American Wintergreen Longcut which would have been perfect if it did not turn so terribly bitter within ten minutes.

I am looking for as coarse a grained snus as possible to bottom lip. I am currently planning to try General and Granit los as I like both of those in portion form. I am also planning to try the OR Original Longcut (unless someone warns me it turns bitter like the wintergreen). I am also going to try Phantom Blue as the portions are amazing.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for a dip substitute?

    Thanks,

Honestly, you aren't going to find a dip substitute in los snus.

    I've tried.

Have you tried Redman longcut? It's made by Swedish Match.

As far as any snus giving you a nice bit of juice to work up and be able to spit, I haven't found one.

The OR longut, pure tobacco, will give you a decent amount of juice. I didn't get a bitter taste. Try it. The flavor is so far off from what I was hoping I never got more than the one can I tried. I was hoping for a copenhagen- esque flavor.

I appreciate you wanting to stick with snus, but you may find it hard to replicate the dip experience with it. I say why not use dip if that's the experience you are looking for. American smokeless also has lowered the amount of TSNAs if that is your concern. Redman dip is made by swedish match.

For my money copenhagen longcut is damm tastey. I also read that Altria, now the owner of Skoal and Copenhagen have lowered their prices a bit.

        Yeah,

Skoal and cope have had their prices cut quite a bit here in Savannah. BUT... For my money, If I want a dip, I will get myself a tin of Grizzly Snuff (fine cut/silver lid). Stuff is about one of the nicest classic moist American snuff flavors I have ever tasted (rivals cope snuff) at half the cost (<2 per can).

Anyways, My dip preferences aren't in any way pertinent to your original question. I agree with the others. You will never replace the same taste, feeling, or experience you get from using dip by switching to loose snus. o enjoy snus, it requires a completely different set of expectations than what you would want from a dip.

If you like dip, I say use what you like.

Thank you for the input guys. I knew I would not find a matching flavor, in fact, since switching to snus I can't stand the taste of my old Silver Creek Straight at all. I guess I was hoping for any snus with flavor x10 and a coarse cut.

I guess I will try Copenhagen or one of its clones. I never liked it when I dipped but maybe I will now.

          Thanks,

Timberwolf,Longhorn and Redman are all made by Swedish Match. As I recall they're low in TSNAs also. I almost grabbed a can the other day just for old times sake.

I'm going to play the devil's left-hand man here and suggest you do try to switch to los snus from dip. It's true that the cut will never be the same, and it will never juice quite as much, but I think you ought to give it your best try.

That said, try "very salty" los varieties as they should juice up more. I noticed that if I "dip-lipped" snus loose that my body would get the juices flowing just the same.

if you really like an occasional dip, then occasionally won't do you any harm. but there is simply so much variety of loose snus that you can try before resigning to that fate, and someone has to keep the los manufacturing alive

As a former dipper, I feel for you. I loved Skoal Mint. Haven't touched it in about a year now. I am a true snus convert. I mainly do los for the feel of the tobacco in my lip, but sadly you will never get the same thing from snus as you do with dip. Nor will you get the same strong flavor.

I was also very conservative with flavors of dip...ONLY liked Skoal, because of the cut, and ONLY mint or spearmint. I hate all the fruit flavors, and the vanilla made me sick just smelling it.

Snus is waaay different, and it took me a while. I made the switch basically because of the differences in health issues. I like that snus usually labels all the ingredients.

Now, I loved Skoal, but I can't remember once where I thought, "Man, this spitting thing is awesome." Total opposite. Another reason why I really like snus.

If you want more flavor, I would go with the fruity stuff like Grot's Rape 2, or N&J East. There are tons of different flavors. I personally only go for the tobacco flavor ones, but even I like the Rape 2 and East every now and then. Grov Black is good too. Hint of anis in it...one of the stronger in flavor portions I use.

Well the OR classic longcut gets shit bitter in seconds. I wouldn't pull the pin on my bottom lipping snus just yet my man. Get a good coarse grind (Phantom is quite coarse, Grov is good i also tried granit) now flavor, might not be what a guy is into a first, either tough it out or just add some flavor. Go buy some extracts from a grocery store and flavor it a bit. I hated the OR classic longcut but with a littl help for a citrus extract and some time in the "lab" i was able to make a great dipping snus.

I can lower lip grov and granit just fine. I would recommend making a hard as **** pris at first (to test the waters).

Enjoy.. by the way i am sure there are a few guys here that just bottom lip snus, perhaps they should throw in their 2 cents as well.

Ettan will get you hooked on lös!

Lately I found faint similarities to Cope snuff in Thunder Extra Stark Portions, but this impression is too fresh to be sure. I haven't tried the lös yet, but I guess it's worth a try.

                      Cheers!

Thank you all for the suggestions. I am glad to see that some of the flavors I like are a coarse grind. I will give this another try and report back.

                        Thanks,

I would try Klondike, if you can find it. It's snus, but very much like American dip.
