Im doing my first can, but where is the taste and nicotine??

Hey,

i bought my first can snus 2 days ago. I think i have used 8 portions. Its Offroad Licorice.

My question is where is the taste and the nicotine? I mean, when i open the can it smells pretty strong licorice and tobacco. But when i put one up in my lip, it burns a little, but i cant taste the flavour and cant feel the nicotine working.

Did i buy a wrong brand as first time snus ? Oh, btw. I have not put the can in the fridge. It is just next to me all day at my room.

Some run more than others. The ones that do produce the most flavor. If I want some more flavor I will squeeze the portion against my gums with my lip, usually works. As far as nicotine, If you used to smoke or dip, an 8mg portion isn't gonna do squat in most cases. Best to start with and sterk/extra sterk IMO.

TheJanitor is totally right here Renico - you need a Sterk or an Extra Sterk. IMO you need an Extra Sterk.

If you're coming off cigarettes try Odens Extreme - it's strong but not in a baseball bat to the head kinda way.

Give yourself some time. Snus has subtle flavors and you will begin to taste them more as time goes by. In fact the snus you like now might be something you really dislike in the future. Also, if you are a former smoker your taste buds might not have returned to normal yet. I do think that snus tastes better after it has been kept in the fridge but it is not necessary. If you are new to snus and really seeking flavor, you might consider trying General mint or a eucalyptus flavored snus. If you want a good plain tobacco flavor then start with General Original. As far as the nicotine goes, there are many different factors at play here from the moisture in your mouth to the actual snus. You should give the snus at least 20-30 minutes before you feel the nicotine and try a sterk if that doesn't work. As I am writing this, I am beginning to wonder if Thunder Frosted might be a match for you but check out the reviews section in this forum as well.

TheJanitor and Frosted are correct.... Sterk and Extra Sterk may be something you will want to look into.

And of course Oden's Extreme snus is fantastic but FYI you can only order it online. I know you have only bought local but you may want to check out some online retailers. The SnusOn store would be a great start but they are still working on getting Extreme.

I disagree regarding the starks. I've long been a vocal opponent, and am still against them, though the Odens extreme is a fine tasting snus. Imo, if you can feel the nicotine, it's too much. As far as the taste goes, try moving the portion around. In addition to squeezing it as TheJanitor said, you can suck on it too. The flavor's more muted in snus than it is for dip, but the strength of flavor should increase as you use snus more, and get acclimated to the flavor profile.

Your body will get used to whatever amount of nicotine you decide to give it. It might feel great to use a sterk but that will eventually fade. I think using sterks might help for the first few days if you are just quitting smoking but 4-8mgs should be fine for most people as they continue. I also believe that lowering your nicotine intake will also make snus even safer to use than it already is. Nicotine DOES not cause cancer but it could be act as a catalyst.

GoVegan - you've got to already have the genetic mutation for this to even be a possibility. Quote - "a genetic mutation that is common in mouth cancer can be worsened by nicotine"

The whole point of snus is to get people off the cigarettes by any possible means in the first instance - then he can find his feet thereafter.
Having said that - we don't even know if he is using it to stop smoking lol.

Maybe just try the different strengths and go with what works for you Renico. I guess the most important thing is satisfying your nictotine cravings to the point where you don't feel the need to smoke. To stay smoke free I settled in the 'stark' area (~12-14mg)
