Not sure if Steak & Shake has expanded beyond the midwest yet but the sport peppers in vinegar is pretty popular in that restaurant for chili. Good sport peppers make a hot dog amazing if only they didn't constantly pop out of the bun. I'm starting to see my meatball chamber bread have even usefulness.
I have a Steak n Shake about 4 miles from my house. I've been there a few times but never seen any sports peppers!
Because of this thread, I now know what "sports peppers" are! I actually had to Google it. In the Pittsburgh, PA area, we keep them in ketchup bottles with vinegar and use it on fish, fries and oysters.

I don't mind ketchup on a hot dog.
But my perfect dog is the chicago dog. I remember eating 3 or 4 one day from one of the vendors outside soldier field when I was walking around Chicago. I just love peppers.
I seldom cited any operator unless he was twenty or more MPH over the limit (except under hazardous road conditions).
One day on a stop the operator who was eighteen MPH over in clear dry conditions with no traffic within miles: was noticed to be eating a hot dog with ketchup.
That hot dog cost him $180.00. To this day he probably still eats them with ketchup because he assumed that he was way over the speed limit. (He sorta was).
Officer discretion is enforceable in all fifty states.
I don't like ketchup, period. I don't buy it. If I get a hotdog at 7-11 I usually put onion and jalapeño on it. Kraut is good too if you get from a traditional vendor.
