My guess is that the car is insured or he would have run………………or would be in jail right now (driving uninsured is a crime……you have to carry at least liability………at least that is the way it is here in SC).

Regardless…………..I am glad you are still with us and I hope you will make a full recovery very soon and that the pain will not be too bad in the meantime………….

Holy Shit Roo...I'm glad you're alive. I really don't think you should get another scooter brother....don't you now have a young family to think of? I may be thinking of someone else, but for whatever reason I was under the impression that you recently had a child ;-)

Either way...as Lx says, many people in cars, just don't watch out for scooters, bikes or even pedestrians. I think you should get a lawyer and clean house with that insurance company, then get a nice car.

thanks Rick, yeah I am listening to my wife read a book to my 15 week old daughter as I type, and after the wreck, I actually do think that not risking my life everytime I drive home from the store is a good call. I do also have a car I bought new last year. I work downtown where parking is $15/day in a garage or $3.50/hour on the street, so I preferred the scooter for daily commuting and liked to leave the car for woman and baby to use. I will probably start taking the GD bus to work. I hate the bus.

yeah, I am anxiously awaiting the release of the police report on monday. the cop knows it was obvious who was at fault, he even said so, but I was laying in a bloody heap on the wet pavement so I couldn't get the guy's name and insurance info. that stuff will be in the police report. I am really, really hoping the dude had insurance. I remember he was being shady in some way, but he did stick around at least, and the cops definitely talked to him. If he is not insured, small claims court will be a bitch and if he doesnt have much money I won't get much either. if anyone has experience with this or insight I would appreciate it.

I only had minimum liability coverage because it's a small scooter and i knew it wouldn't damage anyone else's car really. so if he is not insured and I can't get anything out of him in civil court, I'm stuck with my own co-pays and deductibles, a totaled scooter that cost me $2500 originally and $438 to tow to my house yesterday from the lot the cops sent it to, loss of wages, and plenty of pain and suffering. if he does have insurance and they don't offer a solid settlement, I do believe I'll be getting a lawyer. I'm not trying to screw anyone over, but I also didn't need to get all crippled up in pain, lose my daily mode of transportation, and have potentially life-long loss of some mobility all because some dude was driving like a jackass.

Yea, they're dangerous as shit, mostly due to other people. I've ridden mopeds in the past, and it's unbelievable what people do on the road. They act like you aren't there at all, and it isn't because they don't see you; they just don't care. Add cell phones on top of that now, and you're almost guaranteed to have a negative experience. I want to get some kind of scooter, but I need to get the cash together first. I want one of these...

I want to, someday, but although I always knew damn well it was dangerous, Tuesday was a real eye-opener. Neither of us were going fast, and it was still majorly painful and traumatizing. At high speed I would have been obliterated. But yeah eventually I will. Thanks Lx.

Well fellas, that little red Honda Ruckus that you all love to ridicule me for driving is no longer. On my way home from work Tuesday I made a quick stop at the grocery store, and with my backpack already full, I put the paper sack between my feet and continued home. Turning down a side street a few blocks from my house, I was on the right hand side of the street, as one does when driving in America, going a cool 20 mph or so. To my right I see a Jeep come mobbing around the corner, taking the INSIDE corner on a left turn as one would do on a racetrack, right into mt lane. Right in front of me.

I had a split second to wonder if I could dodge him before he plowed into me head-on, sending me flying 10-15 feet according to the EMT. I put my left arm down to break the fall, and instead of breaking my wrist the force of impact shot up my radius bone and smashed the end of it at the elbow. It hurts like a sonofabitch. I whacked my head on the street, and my helmet saved my life before it somehow flew off, allowing me to score a sizable gash on my bald ass head. Somewhere in the mix I picked up a 6 inch deep laceration to my right thigh that required 12 outside stitches and an unknown number of deeper inside stitches. I think the lone beer bottle in my grocery bag is to blame for one of the deep cuts, and I also have numerous smaller cuts all over my leg. the gashes are rather mysterious -- gouging and stabbing is not what one immediately expects from an automotive collision.

The broken arm really bites though. I have broken my fair share of bones and this bone pain is the worst I have experienced. I'm not too excited about the big ass scar I will have on my head when the 9 stitches come out and it heals. All told, however, I am feeling quite lucky to be alive with no injuries to neck, spine, or anything serious to the head. 8 hours at University of Washington ER and I'm on my way to getting fixed up.

So, no more scooter jokes suckers I'm really going to miss that thing. RIP, Ruckus.
