When I tried to give up smoking about 20 years ago coffee affected me differently not in a good way but I was on nicotine patches so I was still getting the nic. Could it be those other minor alkaloids in tobacco again playing their part making smoking or snus pair well with coffee? Dunno.

Probably. The minor alkaloids in tobacco do seem to modify how nicotine feels to me. Pure nicotine nic pouches satisfy my nicotine craving but make me jittery too. If I switch to a tobacco product instead I regain that 'tobacco satisfaction' and feel chilled out.
I found CBD pouches slightly modified how pure nicotine felt to me making me not so jittery but still not as good as with a tobacco product.
So, there's probably an interaction with coffee too making the caffeine feel different.
