What's the deal with the "# Photo" nomenclature of these Indian companies?
They will send you a photo of the snuff and not the actual stuff. That really helps keep production and tax expenses down. Just make sure you get a decent photo. Some of the stuff coming from India are actually poorly done Polaroid snapshots that fade quickly.

That's cool -- the Federal Reserve did a similar thing with the gold standard, and that's going just... um... wait a sec.

I actually wrote that because I have not idea why they call it photo.

The gentleman from 6 Photo explained on Snuffhouse that in the rural areas of India the illiteracy rate is high. They often ask for the brand of snuff they want by the number of photos of the container in the case of 5 Photo and 6 Photo. That explanation doesn't explain the 41 Photo though...as the tin I have doesn't have 41 elephants....

Hello to you all. This is my first post on this forum
Yes indeed the prevalent mode of purchase of snuff in rural India long time ago was by counting the number of pictures on the can to purchase the required brand of snuff.
Gradually the trend caught the imagination of other manufacturers of snuff who then picked up this trend and printed number of pictures on the snuff can.Now we have around 25-30 snuff manufacturers using this type of number branding.

Thanks for that information. I don't use nasal snuff but I have wondered about how the term photo came to be.
