New snus, Now what?

I always open the "new" snus as soon as I get it. I've tried holding off, but it just doesn't happen.

Thanks! That clears the storage problem up for me. One or two cans open at a time and keep it in the fridge/freezer.

I was always afraid of storing my snus in my cellar. Mine is also humid and I fear some of the moisture will permeate the cans for some reason. The things that I keep down there tend to accumulate a small bit of mold if I don't run the dehumidifier all the time. I'm weary of my snus down there so I haven't tried it. You don't want a musty, dank smell gettin' in there either.

One solution: PATIENCE. I made the same mistake before, but now I only use one can at a time now. In my opinion, it's like Christmas: the anticipation is just as good as the gifts.

Usually Snus is recommended to be kept in 5 - 10 Celcius.... if it's that cold in the cellar then it's awesome...Originally posted by Debaroo View PostI have a question: I have a cool, dark, damp cellar that used to be a wine cellar in my home and am wondering how that would be for snus portion can storage (opened and unopened)?
but otherwise you'll have to use the fridge...
I usually keep my snus that I don't use.... in the freezer in - 6 Celcius .....

I went through all of that when I started, but eventually just settled on one brand. I dunno, I only smoked one brand of cigarettes when I smoked so don't see the need to mix it up with the snus which I use for the pleasure the nicotine gives me. I know I am not the norm here though. Nasal snuff is a different story.

I have managed to cut down my open cans. I mean really there is no reason to have Thunder, Jakobssons, Off Road and General Wintergreen all open at the same time. Now it's one strong Wintergreen and 1 regular. I have started to get into Original portions a lot more lately so right now I do have 2 of those open but like someone stated above discipline in important. For the most part I have been waiting until something new to me is empty before I open another can. This way I get a real idea of the flavor profile nic content and moisture of a given snus and it's much easier to decide what I need to buy more of.

When I started I had like 30 cans open, now I am just dwindling down the open cans, no matter what it is lol...
I still have probably 10 cans of stuff in my freezer that I have not tried yet, but I'll get to them eventually. :P
Sucks when you have as big of a stock as I do to try and decide what to use.

I have my first BIG order (for me) coming and right now I have 4 tins of portions open and can see one getting drier day by day. I'm going to have to invest in some good baggies when I go shopping tomorrow
Thanks for all the tips!

Well I don't really have a system but I do force the discipline when I got orders in.
I always have a Grov White open. Always.
then there's usually 1 Sterk, 1 OP, and 1 Los. These rotate until the can is gone. Within a week I can open a new can of OP, in 2 weeks a new can of sterks, and in 1 month a new can of los.
I have variety left in los. but I only open a new one when the current one is finished.
The sterk variety has dwindled (though I do have a can of Claq Qui open. Yum)
I guess there is a system.

I got 15 cans open in my snus fridge atm. When I find that I am not using a certain one very much I just pop it in the freezer untill I am ready to use it again. I have left cans in there untill they got rather dry, but I just re-hydrate and use them.
I know I have more snuff tins open than I do snus and snuff will dry out on you quick if your not storing it properly.

I always have between four and eight cans open at once. I work from home so it's easy for me to keep up with them. I have a plastic bowl that i keep them all in so they are handy. What I do is when I open a can I take either a zip lock or a regular baggie and cut the top off. Then I dump the contents portion or loose into the bag. Then kind of halfway pack it in the bag so its together good enough to hold in the water better. Then twist the top of the bag and put it back in the can.
Certain brands that I don't use real quick have lasted a month or longer at room temp. Hardly any drying. Been doing it for years now. At first it seemed like a hassle but now i don't think anything of it. I've been doing it so long that I can tell the differences in how well different brands of baggie keep the snus. Some cheap brands are not very good. The thickness of the baggie does make a difference. As I write this i am thinking how nutty it sounds but it's the truth haha.
Times when I don't use the bag I can tell loose starts drying out within two days. I use a lot of N&J portions and without a bag I can see the drying starting the first day.
Anyway, that's my story and I am sticking to it

When I first started snusing I had 10 cans of Portions open at once. Then I got into Los, Now I have 8 open cans of Los along with over 14 cans of portions that I use everyday. But most of the open Los I have open are almost empty and already opened another I wanted to try... Hey variety is the spice of life.... So the system I have in place is to open them up and try them all and if I don't find myself using some that often I freeze them... I don't know how some only have 1 or 2 cans open... Boring!
