More Selective Editing from Keith Olbermann
Posted by: Meredith Jessup at 1:45 PM
For a laugh or two, I flipped over last night to MSNBC for a potent dose of "Countdown" with Keith Olbermann. Newsflash: the guy's still a giant phony.
During last night's "Worst Person in the World" segment, Olbermann highlighted a few of his usuals, including "Glenny" Beck and Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, but once again crowned Rush Limbaugh as the night's "worst." The basis El Rushbo's distinguished honor? Surprise: another spliced audio clip, selectively edited to suggest Limbaugh is an idiot racist.
During yesterday's radio program, Rush first responded to Cynthia Tucker's comments on ABC's This Week in which she said this about RNC chair Michael Steele:
[Steele] is a self-aggrandizing gaffe-prone incompetent who would have been fired a long time ago were he not black. Of course the irony is that he never would have been voted in as chairman of the Republican Party were he not black.
Limbaugh then noted that the same could be said about President Barack Obama:
That's exactly the same thing you could say about Obama--he wouldn't have been voted president if he weren't black. Somebody asked me over the weekend why does somebody earn a lot of money have a lot of money, because she's black. It was Oprah. No, it can't be. Yes, it is. There's a lot of guilt out there; [to] show we're not racists, we'll make this person wealthy and big and famous and so forth.
The Chicago Sun-Times today has this story, it's amazing, "How did we get conned, how did we get fooled? My God we've elected an empty suit. We elected somebody who had no experience, no idea what he was doing, the empty suit cost $5,000."
I thought my God, they finally woke up, they're talking about Obama, but no, they're talking about Blago. They're asking themselves in Chicago how they got conned by Blagojevich! And you read this, and I will share it with you as the program unfolds, it could be written about Obama. So Cynthia Tucker says, yeah, he wouldn't be hired by the GOP if he weren't black.
Washington awaits my fatwa on Michael Steele. Washington is paralyzed today until I issue my findings on this. The first thing I have to say about this: Cynthia Tucker said Steele would only have the gig if he was black. If Obama weren't black he'd be a tour guide in Honolulu or he'd be teaching Saul Alinsky constitutional law or lecturing on it in Chicago, and if somebody's "entitled to a couple of gaffes," why do we still have Senator Bite Me running around as Vice President Bite Me, who is a walking gaffe every time he opens his mouth and he's not even black! So what's the Democrats' excuse for having Joe Bite Me around as vice president? Now, to be serious about this, as best that we can make out here all the outrage is over Steele saying that the war in Afghanistan was a, quote, "war of Obama's choosing, not something the US has actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in," quote, unquote.
But somehow, out of this entire discussion about Cynthia Tucker's comments and the Chicago Sun Times' observations about Blagojevish's political career, Olbermann ONLY hears (and reports) that Rush--with his "diseased and failing mind"--was hating on Obama and Oprah just because they are black:
If Obama weren't black he'd be a tour guide in Honolulu or he'd be teaching Saul Alinsky constitutional law or lecturing on it in Chicago.
He wouldn't have been voted president if he weren't black. Somebody asked me over the weekend why does somebody earn a lot of money have a lot of money, [misquoting Limbaugh, says:] I said it's because he's black.
It was Oprah. No, it can't be. Yes, it is. There's a lot of guilt out there, [to] show we're not racists, we'll make this person wealthy and big and famous and so forth....
Olbermann then launched into one of his overly dramatic, self-righteous soliloquies about how Oprah and Obama worked their way up and didn't become rich and famous just because they're black... yadda, yadda.
Not surprisingly, the Huffington Post was more than willing to play along and today ran Olbermann's selected Limbaugh quotes, closing with a couple of incendiary quotes from the MSNBC host:
"It's naked ugly racism, it is the distillation of Rush Limbaugh's ugly view of our country," Olbermann said.
He ended with a plea to the queen of daytime talk: "Oprah, please crush this schmuck!"

What are they really doing while they are manipulating my emotions towards one team?
Wow, they are really good at this!

Rush is a drug addicted, hypocritical idiot. I wouldn't trust him to wipe his own ass properly, much less anything else. He's a political Howard Stern with half the intelligence, and none of the comedy.
Bush was anything but a great president. There weren't any WMDs in Iraq, and the "evidence" was either manufactured outright, or spun into something it wasn't.
No one "allowed" 9-11. Shit happens. We learned, and moved on. It was an unprecedented attack, executed in an unorthodox style. It won't happen again.
Rush was addicted to oxycontin and your point is? I'm unaware of any hypocrisy on his part, perhaps you could explain. Rush is brilliant and entertaining. Nothing on tv and very little print commentary comes close to offering the in depth analysis Rush provides.
Bush prevented another attack for 8 years and for the most part he provided good, sound foreign policy. Whereas Obama has done more to damage this country, since Jimmy Carter, in a very short time. He sucks up to our enemies, bows to dictators, belittles our allies. It was not by accident that we were not attacked again during Bush's presidency, or that we have been attacked several times during Obama's. Everything I said about Clinton, was factual and provides reasons why 911 was avoidable. As long as we elect leaders like Clinton, Carter and Obama, future occurrences are much more likely.

I just sent an invite to Rush to join the forums here. He needs to defend himself.
Anyhoo, since when are we ripping on "Drug addictions" here? /Just curious.
Hell, I thought 90% of the snuson populace was.,,, er well, u know. Myself not excluded, hell I admit, I'm probably addicted to xanax.
And I know about 99.9% of us are addicted to Nicotine. /Just saying
But even with all that said, I can wipe my ass just fine. At least I think I can. Start at the base of the balls and wipe backwards till the crack ends, INORITE?
...Nothing personal lixxer, I just couldn't resist... Please forgive me!

Seriously though, when you want to be taken seriously don't put idiots up on pedestals. If you want intelligent right of center commentary, G Gordon Liddy is a much better source of information. He's legitimately, and verifiably brilliant, and a genuine American hero. Not a 2 bit store front preacher that takes money from people by telling them what they want to hear ;^)

Rush IS a political Howard Stern with half the intelligence and none of the humor.
However, for those who like to point he's a drug addict, I feel it's an irrelevant non-issue to even bring up. How many people here on Snuson have done drugs at some point in their life? Should we not listen to them and assume anything they say is hogwash? President Obama, in his own book admits he used to do cocaine and smoked weed for a period of his life. So if you hate Rush for this reason than you must also hate Obama.
Furthermore, Rush was prescribed Oxycontin for pain management and became addicted. In my line of work I deal with people like this every day. It is so extremely common for people to get addicted to Oxycontin after being initially prescribed it for legitimate reasons. And many Dr’s will continue prescribing it to make more money, even when it is no longer medically necessary. So him being addicted to Oxycontin is not a huge surprise to me, and is a “more legitimate” instance of drug abuse than a President who voluntarily snorted coke (and just as an FYI, I’m sure nearly all of the presidents at least back to Clinton snorted coke. We all know Bush did) . And Rush is clean now so not sure if it’s fair to still categorize him as a drug addict.
Either way, I think the talking point of “he did drugs before” is irrelevant. How about instead we point out that he frequently makes racist comments and spins things to favor republican no matter what. He is the most lock and step party cheerleader the republicans have. He’s like the Keith Olbermann of the right.

We weren't attacked again, because Al-Qaeda doesn't have the resources to do something like that more than once a decade or so. Using your standard, Bush is the obvious failure. HE'S the one that was on watch when the attack happened. Clinton kept our country safe 8 years. Bush couldn't even manage 1 :^D

sgreger1's post was well stated, except for his and your incorrect assessment of Rush's mental capacity and the repeated false accusations of racism. i guarantee, those who make these criticisms do not listen to his show. Every criticism, I've ever heard, was based on a small portion of a statement taken completely out of context.
The statists, leftists and pundits just don't get it. Talk radio is largely conservative, because it is, by nature, nothing more than a lengthy, often complex argument. A dissection of various subjects in far greater complexity and detail than a tv sound bite. Liberism/statism cannot withstand this kind of scrutiny. It is hollow and unsuitable for anything more than a 10 second sound bite and cannot survive in radio. Rush is a master in this realm, where he sometimes espouses unpopular beliefs, which are difficult, if not impossible to defend via sound bites. He does this with reason and flawless logic, in an entertaining manner.
He is not a racist, but statists will continue to use this method of attack, because it's impossible to dend against and they cannot defeat his logic. What can he say? What would you say, if someone called you a racist? "No, I'm not"? "I treat people according to the content of their character, not the color of their skin"? Good luck with that. Leftists have treated people according to the color of their skin, even openly espoused this as valid or fair, for years, yet everyone KNOWS they couldn't be racsist, right?
We were attacked 8 months into Bush's first term, by perpetrators who had been planning the attack for years (during the Clinton administration). Clinton failed to respond to the first attack or the second, and Al Qaeda learned from his lack of response. He instituted rules that made co-operation between the CIA and the FBI nearly impossible. He weakened the CIA, to the point that field agents were afraid to do their job. The summoned the head of CIA middle east operations to DC for a scolding, based on disinformation spread by Iran. He did refused to authorize liquidation of Bin Laden because he doubted our "legal" right to defend ourselves. He refused an offer by the Sudan to hand over Bin Laden. What more do you need? Pictures? Maybe if Oliver Stone made a movie?
Since Obama has been in office, they attempted to blow up a plane. The planing for this operation was very short and took place mostly or exclusively during Obama's term. A jihadist army officer killed a dozen solders. The clues all occurred during Obama's term. Then their was the Times Square attempt. Planned during Obama's administration. Obama has bowed to half the worlds dictators and tried his best to screw over every ally we have. He promised to close gitmo. Apologized to the world, when most of the world should THANK us. Forbid us from water boarding suspects, even if we KNOW, the information they possess could save thousands off lives. And he demands we read them constitutional rights afforded to US citizens. What more do you need? He couldn't put us in greater danger, if he tried (assuming he isn't, but I'm not so sure anymore) Don't hold your breath for the Oliver Stone film, he's busy lionizing Chavez.
