    Gay pride parade

So, I just finished working at the gay pride festival today in San Francisco. Has anyone ever been? There was 1 million people at this one.

Anyways, it's late and I'm only posting because I'm scared to go to sleep. I have never seen some of the things I saw today, and ive been in the army and seen a dick before. This was just... God I don't even know. I'll just say that you couldn't have done any of the things I witnessed today in a state like Alabama without getting shot. Apparently ca is the only state where you can have a gay orgy on a public road or outfront of a business legally.

Anyways, made some weekend cash and experienced something new, what'd I miss while I was gone?

I've been to plenty of gay pride parades in L.A., Long Beach and San Diego. They are tame compared to what I've heard goes on in SF. Hell, the Castro is wild on a weekday.
I've know several gay men from Alabama, but I can't imagine any of the Cali
type pride seen going on in Alabama.

Ladysnus. I'm from LA, they do not breed gays like they do in SF. Perhaps the term gay orgies in the streets was not descriptive enough. I feel like I lost a virginity I didn't know I had.

I'm not shocked by much, but SF blows my mind every single time.
That is not the image I would want to project and demand marriage rights at the same time.

I know plenty of gay folks in Alabama. One is my stylist, and his partner is his assistant. Those guys have been together since I was born in 1977. They're awesome guys that you could count on for anything.
I'm totally and completely on the side of the gay folks in whatever kind of equality they deserve. Except the big hairy ass raping bears. Those dudes freak me right out.

Well, that makes two of us here, at least.

Why in the world do you equate bears with rapists? I'm disappointed by that remark -- I expected better from you, AK. I might be offended, if that weren't such an obviously ludicrous statement.

Well that is what we in the business refer to as a joke. Unless you were joking. In which case, cool. Text is truly too subtle setimea for humor. Of course I support anyone who wants to love another hairy and big or not. Again, that was only my failed attempt at humor.

You're right that it can be difficult to determine what is being said in jest, especially in cyberspace. And as I said, I wasn't really offended, just taken aback a little. No harm, no foul, friend.

As a matter of fact, the whole gay thing is my biggest beef with conservatives. I think that finacially yes, to be conservative makes sense because you're dealing with hard numbers. But socailly you can't do that. We can't legislate basic human love between 2 consenting adults or he'll even between 2 consenting teenagers.
I think everyone should be free to spend their lives with whoever they want. I wish things like that didn't have to be said but they do. I just want everyone to know how strongly I feel about gay rights. It's a big deal. Nobody should be made to feel like a criminal or sinner for what's in their hearts.

The REAL question is, Sgreger1: Did you enjoy it?

I remember when I moved to NY for the first time. I moved to south Yonkers and my roommate and I decided to venture into Manhattan for a night of debauchery on our first day there. We didn't even unload the trucks we just hopped on the train and were in mid-town in no time. Well, about two hours into our exploration we discovered that it was Gay Pride day in NY. There was a parade of freaks and yeah, dude, I know exactly what you mean, though I'd bet there were more people in SF. It's all in the day though. I mean we get a little uppity on the Fourth of July too. I don't think gay people are any different than me with that one exception. So what?

I guess that's not totally true. They are different when it comes to selling. In the biz we call them DINKS (double income - no kids) and it's good as gold, IMHO. Two women are tough for me. One of them, always, doesn't seem to like me. As much as I'd like to think so I'm probably not oozing sexual energy but I feel like I'm being judged constantly when I'm in a sales situation with two women partners. This happens all the time with the younger couples (30's) but not so much with the mature women (50's+). It might be me...I must be giving off some vibe that I'm not aware of...well sometimes I'm very aware of it, in fact I sometimes even think about it later (ha!). Two men are the best in a sales situation. I'm not too proud to flirt to get the deal. I've got the "I bet you'd like to turn this straight guy gay" shtick down pretty good.

Besides that there's no difference other than they are probably nicer people in general (IMO). At least the friends that I have are. I know they can be counted on...especially when the chips are down.

We have a pretty big parade/festival here in Minneapolis. My ex-boss who was not gay would participate in the local art/craft show. I never saw the parade but plenty of characters walking around the park at the show.
As a artist I grew up with plenty of gay people and have also worked with many. I am perfectly fine being around them and more accepting then most but I just dont agree at all with gay marriage or gay couples/singles adopting kids. Then again I also dont think single mothers should be allowed to adopt or artificially inseminate themselves either.

I have no issues or prejudices against homosexuals. To each his own. I do think that the parades are a little over the top and actually hinder their progress for equal rights. I have spoken to gay men/women before, and most (at least in Oklahoma) are not supportive of these flamboyant parades, and see them as portraying them in a negative light and supportive of typical stereotypes.

As far as gay marriage and raising of children. No problem here. I've met plenty of gay couples that would make better parents than most heterosexual couples I've met.

The outrageous behavior sgreger witnessed is really more of a symptom of the curious and unique atmosphere of the People's Republic of San Francisco than any wider sign of ill-civilized tendencies in other less fevered precincts. SF could not be more of an island, in all respects conceptually and politically, even if there was an arm of the bay cutting through south of the city. I speak as one with great affection for friends there, in the Castro even, but they could not be more insulated from what most of us consider "normality" in the rest of the country. It is an insular Progressive hothouse powered by big big money that by and large has relegated the petit bourgouisie to hapless commuters from those crude urban swamps across the bay who must kick in seven bucks to merely gain access to the exalted environs of the "city".
