Any coffee drinkers here (dumbest question ever maybe)?

Probably. The minor alkaloids in tobacco do seem to modify how nicotine feels to me. Pure nicotine nic pouches satisfy my nicotine craving but make me jittery too. If I switch to a tobacco product instead I regain that 'tobacco satisfaction' and feel chilled out.Originally posted by Chewbacca View PostCould it be those other minor alkaloids in tobacco again playing their part making smoking or snus pair well with coffee? Dunno.
I found CBD pouches slightly modified how pure nicotine felt to me making me not so jittery but still not as good as with a tobacco product.
So, there's probably an interaction with coffee too making the caffeine feel different.

When I tried to give up smoking about 20 years ago coffee affected me differently not in a good way but I was on nicotine patches so I was still getting the nic. Could it be those other minor alkaloids in tobacco again playing their part making smoking or snus pair well with coffee? Dunno.

Thanks for all the data. Does seem a bit complex, but its good the two together wont have me banging my head into walls anytime soon because they go well together imo.Originally posted by Monkey View Post

Here is an old but good meta analysis of nicotine (smoking) and caffeine.
“In particular, caffeine appears able to alter the behavioral actions of nicotine, not simply in terms of nicotine's actions as a stimulant or depressant of motor activity, but more importantly in terms of nicotine's subjective and reinforcing effects and, thus, its addictive potential.”
“In conclusion, the experiments reviewed demonstrate that caffeine can alter some of the behavioral and pharmacologic effects of nicotine. These interactions appear complex, since caffeine is able to magnify some important aspects of nicotine's actions, as in the case of self-administration or dopamine release in the shell of the nucleus accumbens, while within the same time period caffeine exposure appeared to be either ineffective or decreased the effects of nicotine in other behavioral tests. Thus the end result of caffeine-nicotine interactions can be qualitatively different depending on the particular aspects of behavior taken into consideration. From this point of view, self-administration data are strongly in agreement with epidemiologic data and give a pharmacologic counterpart to the strong correlation between caffeine and nicotine consumption in humans”
TL/DR caffeine potentiates nicotine, and when caffeine is removed from the equation, nicotine use increases…but there has not been consistent results in testing so more research is needed.
Here’s one on tobacco cessation and caffeine (don’t pay for the whole thing, I have access through work and the front page covers the whole paper).
https://scholar.google.com/scholar?s...3DW5s0uufpsfAJ
Caffeine did not potentiate the anxiogenic effects of nicotine withdrawal. Thus, caffeine might not produce negative effects on anxiety during tobacco cessation.
Super hard to casually find single articles on caffeine and nicotine…I might do some real looking into it if I remember.

Nice. I never had the 2 you mentioned, might have to try eventually. I heard someone say when you do coffee and nic at the same time, one or the other is canceled out a bit. Maybe thats a good thing if true. Haha

Thank you! I’m going to check it out/price it when I go grocery shopping at the end of next week.Originally posted by Link View PostMy local grocer sells the red and yellow tagged, which are medium and what I usually stick to. And they carry the brown and green tagged too, which are the darker roasts.
Edit:
Link Chewbacca i found espresso blend and Oro at one supermarket, I needed to pop in for some tea (I ran out this morning
), but I want to shop around before I grab some…so it is available.

I will check it out. The black sounds my speed…Originally posted by Chewbacca View Post
I like it. It’s kind of a top brand here I guess. We can get 4 caffeinated ones. The black one, the red one, and the gold one… there’s a reddyblue one too but I’m not keen on that.
i think the black one is for espressos but I use it in a cafetière… in fact I use any of them in the cafetière. The black one MIGHT be the strongest one.
I think the gold one might be the premium one.
I love coffee but I am not an expert. I have a budget but good machine which I use instead of the cafetière sometimes and would probably use the black one in that.
Looks like you can get the red and gold one in the USA:

I just checked out Amazon (not my favorite way to buy but really, other than an independent roaster most commercial item purchases are giving profits to a soulless corporation…but I digress) and there are a bunch I can buy on there. I’ll see what’s at the store next grocery run and see what they have. Too many online options to make a reasonable choice.
I’m not an expert either, but I will always take a reccomendation. Incidentally, the company I order from accidentally sent me whole brand so I grabbed some ground coffee because some days I just don’t have time to grind it with my hand grinder, and right now I am suffering through a terribly bitter/astringent brick of Cafe La Llave that was buy one, get one at the local supermarket…so that’s two pounds I got for convenience (for less than 4 bucks) so if it sucks I’ll still use it…I am frugal. I will buy a brick of Cuban espresso like this one every now and again, but this one is not to my taste.Last edited by Monkey; 18-02-24, 06:23 PM. Reason: I’ve never had Illy either. Just noticed the edit after I posted, it’s like commenting in the tags on Tumble.

I’ve never had Lavazza. What is it comparable to?

LavAzza streak since it has been on sale for a few months straight at the local grocer around my area. Not bad stuff, couple cups a day. No sugar.

I’ve been hitting an after lunch tea, not…bad but I miss putting sugar in my tea and don’t want to make the “pink stuff” or any other sweetner a habit, especially since I have the occasional diet soda.
