Pax: Ploom's new premium loose-leaf vaporizer

Hi MaNiAc - the bit where it states "Pax is only available to be shipped to US or Canada addresses at this time." didn't put you off then? I don't think I'm going to order a $250 product with that kind of disclaimer in place.
And thanks for the kind offer desirexe - I'm sorry I didn't see it last time I checked this thread. I may be looking down that route soon if nothing is forthcoming through the official channels. But I would like to see a less isolationist approach from Ploom if I am going to be one of their users otherwise I will have a technological product with next to no support in case it goes wrong! And I'm not stupid.
Their replies here have shown me that despite being a small, innovative, independent company - Ploom's desire to be seen as a bigger faceless corporate entity is so real that they even start up their business with the kind of answers and customer service you only normally get from Apple or dare I say it, Northerner in the last year or so.
I find that very sad ... companies destined for great things can only really bring that amazing personal touch early on in their existence - but that is what generally makes their product go viral because they have very dedicated, enthusiastic .. even evangelical first adopters to spread the buzz. I can't see Ploom doing anything to help that happen here. And I truly believe that they have the product to go viral with the Pax.
End of Rant

Squeezy - if you have any issues ordering one..I am sure many people here would help you out
It may cost a little more for postage by having a 'middle-man' to receive and re-ship the package, but I think all of us have been in a situation of wanting something but due to stupid rules & laws not being able to order
I can only relate a little to you when I lived in HI years ago and dealing with U.S companies that would only ship to the mainland...just maddening!

Butane power is convenient for the plug-and-play aspects, but due to occasional altitude problems among other issues, we decided to go with lithium ion for the Pax.Originally posted by sgreger1Ive had really bad experiences with butane vaporizers, they seem to break after a short amount of time. Hopefully yours is of a higher quality, but i've paid >$200 for them before and had bad results. The ploom looks absolutely cool as shit though and I wish I am sure you will have success with that product. Really, really cool product.

Both of our units are portable vaporizers, but Pax is designed for use with loose-leaf pipe tobacco and is battery-powered, whereas the modelOne is designed for use with our Ploom Pods and runs on butane. Since both units vaporize rather than combust the tobacco, the smell produced is pleasant and reminiscent of cured tobacco, and dissipates quickly.

This is such a cool new product, I would love to hear from anyone here who ends up buying one to see how it goes. What is the difference between the Pax and the model one, other than a $200 price difference? Is t just that Pax is smaller and can be used with any loose-leaf tobacco, whereas the model one comes with pre-loaded cartridges? The Pax looks freaking sweet. Also, does this leave the smell of tobacco on you like a cigarette does?

Hi Squeezy. We apologize for the difficulty. If you could fill out the form on this page, we will be happy to get the ball rolling on your order. Please let us know if you have any questions.Originally posted by squeezyjohnI have to admit that American companies' apparent phobia about sending products outside their domestic markets is starting to get a bit annoying and boring for me. Most UK online shops, especially specialist ones, will send to any country in the world unless there are laws forbidding it.
I have a mail forwarding account with an address in Oregon now set up for when US businesses will not ship to the UK - but unfortunately Ploom will not accept my pre-order because it can't verify my age through that address.
Who's "big brother" is more intrusive now? It would appear to be "the land of the free"!
Hmmmm
Squeezy
PS - I'm only peeved because I desperately want one of these things and I don't want to be put off by promises of distribution to Europe in the near future (which never happens in approximately 100% of these cases)

Are there any decent personal vaporisers that you can get in the uk? The iolite any good?

@Wadetheblade - I love that the WISPR takes gas rather than needing electricity. But in comparison it's an ugly bit of kit to the Pax isn't it?
@sgreger1 - re: land of the free, I know - but it's still the company line which I love the opportunity of dispelling when I can. And I am still cross about the isolationist attitude of the majority of US companies I attempt to deal with online - I guess I am just used to small businesses who want to use the net to widen their consumer base to include me like is the case with most other countries - but I am not surprised given my experience trying to order stuff from the US.
Bottom line is that Ploom have really come up with the goods here, provided the gadget does what it says it can do. It looks to me like a classily designed, smaller than the competition vape that is aimed at the high end market and has the possibility of out-doing e-cigs because it is so good that it doesn't look like a cigarette and could be the one that breaks the "has to look like a cig" convention we have going on here in the UK.
I will say it again - I want one - and that is not knowing if it even works or not. The power of good design and clever advertising is God in this kind of business ... not allowing someone to buy it who you are advertising to when they are champing at the bit is not good practice!
Cheers
Squeezy

I love the design, I wonder how it compares to the WISPR, which is awesome and priced the same.
