I am starting to get occasional hits of tobacco but the thing I notice about Ettan is the smooth clean buzz from the nicotine. I don't know how to describe it but Ettan seems to feel better than the General line, and I enjoy it more after a long abstinence. Although lacking flavor for me still, Ettan is starting to grow on me.
I love all things Ettan :) #justsaying

Having only the Canadian Snus experience (limited for sure) I was well used to two of the three varieties of Snus available here ie: General wintergreen and General smooth taste (which I assume is similar to, or the same as General smooth flavour?), regardless I prefer the taste of the General smooth taste although it is saltier than the wintergreen as it has a tobacco flavour that I enjoy.
I purchased Ettan white portion online based on reviews I have read thinking I liked the sound of a Snus that had a slightly smokey tobacco flavour without the added sweetness. Here are my observations. Primarily the flavour is salt, thats it, just salt, period. I suppose I would compare it to putting a tea bag of salt under your lip. Trying like hell to discern any flavour other than salt is next to impossible. I suppose if I delude my self, I might say that there is a hint, however infinitesimally small, of smokey tobacco goodness behind the blindingly salty character but by God I can't detect it. As for the nicotine yes portion size is demonstrably larger than the Canadian General product and seems therefore to give be a better hit of nicotine but then again perhaps this is just my heart going into sodium overload and pumping for all it's worth. I assume the loose version contains a modicum less sodium as it is unnecessary to deliver the nicotine to your system, who knows? I am certainly unwilling to find out after this experience. If you love salt flavour and not much else than this is the Snus for you!
Having gone through three cans of Ettan now I can safely say it really improves a whole hell of a lot over time. Being a relative nube to snus I think, in retrospect I should reserve judgment in future until I go through at least two cans. I recently went back to a General wintergreen mint white portion and didn't enjoy it as much as when I fist started snusing. Ettan is an amazing quality product, I think I will try the loose portion on my next order. I would describe the flavour as nutty and slightly bitter, reminiscent of walnuts with the bitter skin on and an earthy tobacco flavor.
+1 with Granola and Jens ... while I do love all Ettan, only snus I use any more ... the white releases its flavor like the loose, a tad saltier, but rich and pure. OP's profile is a bit more cocoa/nutty ... they are just all damn fine!! ...my two cents. Or 1/2 cent ... :)
Ettan White tastes like the loose version, pure tobacco. Much better taste than Ettan OP. Ettan White is probably my favourite portion, or at least as good as General White.
Based on previous reviews, and my new-found love of Ettan Original portions, I thought I might regret ordering 3 cans of Ettan White. I was wrong. I love Ettan White.
The flavor doesn't appear as quickly as with Ettan Original, but when it does, it's enhanced by the added saltiness of the white portion. I usually despise overly-salty white portions, but this is just right. It's almost a totally different beast compared to Original. The White portions don't have the same strong cocoa overtones as the Original. In fact, it reminds me very much of my old standby and all-time favorite dip: Skoal Vanilla. Maybe that's why some people hate it?
This is no where as good as the original portion. I LOVE the original portion, I tollerate the the white portion. When I first opened it up and smelled it, it smelled like Roda Lacket and I was like WTF. I guess it's the portion material I am smelling. Now I really wanna order a can of Roda Lacket los, even though I don't like los, just to see what Roda Lacket really smells and tastes like.
Sometimes Mystery Cans or blind dates really work out well...
I'd avoided Ettan Vit on principle -- all the whites I'd sampled earlier were just pale versions of the originals -- but the vendor dropped a can into my last shipment and now EV's up there with Ettan Original as a snus I'd someday maybe like to settle down with for good.
EV, like any white, is a milder presentation of the Ettan recipe, but I find I like the way it filters out some of the dirt-and-tobacco to let the choco-nut ingredient, whatever it is, assert itself at first -- just a bit -- before it folds back into the Ettan mix -- where it remains, without turning towards nutshell-bitterness the way an Original portion is sometimes prone to do.
And the overall flavor remains a long time -- about twice as long as an Ettan regular portion. Yah, there's even a "buttery feel after an hour."
A good every day, all day, work day snus.
Smokey, pure tobacco flavor. Slight hits of salt, and a slightly nutty finish. A definate must try if you're not much into flavored snus. Although most seem to prefer the los, this is a great product for portion users. Can definately be an all day snus. 5 stars. 8)
